Tools and Hardware Reviews of Orange Guard Water Based Home Pest Control - 1 Gallon Bottle 101Customer Review: Great to kill sugar Ants and keep them away. Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this product 4 years ago when we had major issues with ants invading our kitchen. I had a dog then and a toddler so I was concerned about pesticides around them. I must admit that I was very skeptical but the product works! Every spring the ants return and start invading our kitchen. I had to deal with them all through the summer months too, but with the Orange Guard they are gone. I spray all around the entrance doorway to keep them from coming in the house and it works. The only issue is that when it rains outside, the orange guard washes away and then the ants return. As long as I spray around the trail they use to get in, they don't return. This is a great product to kill aunts. I do not dilute it when I use it. I spray where I see ants and let it air dry. I spray all around our kitchen table and even the table legs since the ants like to crawl around the table. This product is great... Only issue this is not good for Spiders. Mind you, the bottle does state its good for ants, roaches and as a flea repellent and it doesn't say anything about spiders. I sprayed this on spiders and it does nothing to them. So if you need an ant repellent this product is for you, if you have spider issues...move on!
Customer Review: Orange Guard is an Ant Repellant NOT a Killer!! Summary: 1 Stars
I used Orange Guard on several fire ant mounds, using the manufacturer's instructions of 3 to 1 diluted AND full strength. The mounds were ABANDONED. There were absolutely no ant carcasses to be found AND here is the important point, mounds appeared nearby in short order where there were none before. For emphasis and clarity, I repeat, even at full strength, Orange Guard DID NOT KILL fire ants, it just made them move. If you want to kill fire ants in the most earth friendly way, use boiling water. You will see dead ants, and except for the energy burned boiling water, no possible harm to the earth. BTW, as far as the spinosad based products such as Conserve, although safer than probably all previous such products, studies on spinosad show slight toxicity to birds, moderate toxicity to fish, and slight to moderate toxicity to aquatic invertebrates. However, it is highly toxic to bees and is highly toxic to oysters and other marine mollusks. Again, boiling water (as a nod to Ray Bradbury, I call it Farenheit 212) does no harm to any of these when applied to ant mounds. If you want an ant repellant, it does appear to accomplish that.
Customer Review: Natural Flea Repeller-not killer? Summary: 4 Stars
I've been using this for several years for severe flea problems, I'd rather use this than chemicals or diatomaceous earth. I spray it everywhere-wood floors, upholstered furniture, on the rugs, animal sleeping spots, outside in the yard. It does make the floors slippery till it dries and after several uses can leave a sticky residue on linoleum or tile. No problem, just wash it off. Doesn't stain fabric (so far). BUT, I haven't seen it really kill fleas. I mean, I've put live fleas right in the stuff and they squirm around for ages and jump away if they can. Still, it definitely keeps the flea population down. Not as effective as a chemical spray, but it does work and isn't toxic. It says on the bottle not to use it directly on your pet, but I have, a bit diluted with water, with no ill effects. It doesn't make my cats drool and the dog doesn't mind it at all. It smells like oranges which may give some people a headache (my son complains about the smell). Overall, a good product that has it's place. I'll continue to use it. Oh, buy the gallon size and get a spray bottle to fill.
Customer Review: DOESN'T WORK SAVE Your Money!!! Summary: 1 Stars
Okay, yes It kills On contact, the ants. Spiders? NO. they get up and walk away. Any other bugs? NO. they get up and walk away too. And It DOES NOT last, and it does Not prevent ants from Coming in your home. You basically have to keep spraying and spraying. 5 Minutes later , the ants are Back! Save Your Money. I Bought this becuase I have cats and I am concerned with pesticides around them. Says its safe. It has a strong odor. Im not so sure. The fact that I Have to keep spraying and spraying upsets me! Its Like fighting a Losing battle with this stuff. Dont buy this stuff.. it doesnt work. At Least Not as far as Keeping the ants away for longer than 5 minutes.
Customer Review: killed ants on contact Summary: 4 Stars
I was rather skeptical of Orange Guard but I try to use chemicals as little as possible. I purchased this product to use on sugar ants and small household ants that were showing up around my cats food bowl. This product kills ant instantly on contact. It has a very strong smell which is rather pleasant in small doses. The downside is the lack of a residual effect. It does not seem to prevent ants from coming back for very long. I suggest you use this spray for immediate control of present insects especially in sensitive areas such as around pet food bowls but you may need something with a more long lasting effect for reoccurring problems.
