Tools and Hardware Reviews of Orbit 62035 Extra Valve for Yard Watering SystemCustomer Review: Entering season three... Summary: 3 Stars
I've used this watering system for the past two seasons, and had wonderful results. The system is reliable, and once you get the hang of it, fairly easy to program. I'm just entering my third season, and was surprised when I set up the system this year that the batteries are still going strong from last season (although I will replace them to be safe). However, I noticed that two of the three valve systems drip water even after they are shut off. I know this didn't happen last year, but the leaking is too much for me to leave the system on. So I just ordered three new valves, as I can't find a good alternative and the system has served me well for two seasons. I do wish the valves were a bit more durable - we'll see if this next set last a bit longer.
Customer Review: Works great, but doesn't last long Summary: 3 Stars
The unit, when working, is flawless. Because of the plastic construction in the portion of the unit where it attaches to the spigot, the unit cannot tolerate much load, so you need to make sure that you mount the unit with a short piece of hose between the spigot and this valve (to provide "flex") otherwise the stress of holding up the hose will cause this value to break right at the plastic to brass fitting junction.
Also remember to bring these units in at the end of the season.
I did have some of these units replaced by the manufacturer. Orbit is an extremely customer friendly company.
As long as you protect this unit from excessive load (which isn't much) it will work great for a number of seasons.
Customer Review: Convenient, inexpensive yard watering, but the valves are flimsy Summary: 3 Stars
I originally bought an Orbit watering kit with a 4 channel controller, 4 way hose manifold and two valves at a local hardware store to water my front yard. It worked well, so I added another valve and eventually bought another kit for the back yard. A few years later the controllers are still chugging along (had to swap the batteries once, otherwise they just do their thing).
But these valves are flimsy plastic and tend to break around the brass connector that connects to the water supply. I've replaced 2 or 3 already and am back buying some more to restock my supply. It's still much cheaper than having underground sprinklers put in, but I wish these valves were $25 instead of $15 and better built.
Customer Review: Useful product with good design Summary: 4 Stars
This is a useful product for timed watering of your lawn and garden. Do not expose it to direct sunlight for extended period of time; build a shade over it or a box around it. I bought the whole kit (The electronic timer, 4-way manifold, 3-quick connectors, two solenoids, batteries, fasteners, etc. from Costco for only $45, and then additional solenoid valves for only $5 each from Walmart). The online prices are about 3 times too high. Caution: the 4-way manifold is made of aluminum and will break at the neck shortly. You will have to buy one made of brass metal from The Home Depot for about $10. Batteries will last about a year. Overall, this product is quite reliable and is definitely worth the money I paid.
Customer Review: Works fine, but plastic fittings limit the life of the unit Summary: 4 Stars
I have 10 of these things hooked up to 3 control units. The main complaint I have is the plastic fittings. The valves and control unit usually come bundled with a 4-channel brass distributor. Unfortunately, when you attach the brass distributor to a common outdoor faucet it usually causes things to stick out at an angle, not hang straight up and down. This angle causes the weight of the hose to put a lot of stress on the valve's plastic fittings and can cause them to crack. I advise buying some kind of elbow unit or flexible attachment that causes the hose to hang straight down, and finger-tighten the hoses only - don't use a wrench unless you have a really steady hand.
