Tools and Hardware Reviews of Orbit 62035 Extra Valve for Yard Watering System

Customer Review: Lasted only 3 weeks
Summary: 1 Stars

I've had lots of problems with hose to sprinkler water timers, but I have two Orbit systems in place that are working. I needed a replacement valve for one of the systems, but I could no longer find them at Home Depot or Lowes, so I ordered through Amazon. I got this one about 3 weeks ago and it's already broken. It opens part way but not enough to run a sprinkler. Thankfully it shuts off all the way.( I've tested the hose and sprinkler to make sure that wasn't the problem.) I can hear it click like it was working, but the water pressure is very low.
I honestly cannot say I've had any digital timers that have been really reliable. It's kind of frustrating.

Customer Review: Orbit Sunmate
Summary: 3 Stars

This item is very handy for locations not suitable for hardwiring valves to a PVC system and works well electronically.

It has a major flaw in that the female connection is made of very fragile plastic below the washer and easily cracks separating the brass part from the plastic base. In addition, this plastic piece will not last long and deteriorates in a very short time. I have had to replace 6 of them over a period of less than 3 years, each one cracked and broken at the base, causing some serious water leaks. Needless to say you best be home when this occurs to preclude major water damage and/or billing.

Customer Review: Perfect for Summer Watering
Summary: 5 Stars

We've been using the Orbit watering system for several years now but had to replace a valve this year--the directions printed on the valve specifically state not to let it freeze. We left it attached outside all winter and found the directions to be accurate. We have our sprinkler system set up with two timers, one in the front yard and one in the back yard, and four valves attached to each timer. We run hoses along the fence line so they're relatively invisible and attach rain-bird sprinklers--we call it the poor-man's sprinkler system. System works perfectly and comes on precisely when set.

Customer Review: Orbit Yard Watering System
Summary: 3 Stars

The controllers work flawlessly and are terrific for busy or absent minded people.

The valves are terrible! I would never trust one enough to go on vacation and expect them to turn off the water at the proper time or not to break and shoot water out of the fractured plastic valve. If they made a premium quality valve assembly I would gladly pay way more for one that was robust and reliable. It would be real nice if they had a brass valve/solenoid assembly that could be rebuilt with an inexpensive kit.

I just ordered another replacement valve but this is the last time.

Customer Review: Fantastic... but...
Summary: 3 Stars

This system is great but the material quality is low. The outer casting is made from inferior material and it does not last more than a year. It will eventually crack inside the hose ring causing it to leak and need to be replaced. The units do have a lifetime warranty and so far Orbit has been good about sending me free replacements. Just remember to go to their web site and send them an e-mail explaining that the unit has failed.

Kind of a hassle but it sure beats watering by hand.

5 stars for the idea & functionality
1 star for durability
