Tools and Hardware Reviews of Oxygenics 130-XLF25 BodySpa SkinCare Handheld Shower, ChromeCustomer Review: Amazing... for low pressure and/or RV Summary: 5 Stars
I am extremely pleased with this shower wand/head! I think you might be too.
This shower wand would work well for home or RV, but my primary purpose was to find something to replace (and thereby improve) the shower experience in my RV. I am living full time in my motor home. The water pressure at the current RV park is 40 psi (I measured it.), which is actually quite sufficient for most uses but the original shower head either used all the hot water (I have a 6 gallon hot water tank) or was a limp dribble when I tried to conserve the hot water.
My research lead me to this shower head. It advertises a 2.5 gpm flowrate, which would be too much for my application, but with some research I found out that this 2.5 gpm was at 75-80 psi. When 40 psi is used, the flow is only 1.5 gpm. That is more like I needed. That convinced me, so I ordered it with the optional support bracket. (I don't have a conventional shower pipe out the wall; the connection in the RV is part of the faucet.)
Installation was simple and straight forward; just a matter of screwing some connections together. The most difficult part was determining how and where to put the optional support bracket. This wouldn't be an issue if you are hanging it from the shower pipe (that bracket is part of the supplied connections), but in the RV it needs to be attached to the wall. I mounted the optional bracket to a small square of plastic then velcro'd the plastic piece to the shower wall. It is removable, adjustable and sturdy.. now to test.
The shower was amazing! Lots of velocity and plenty of water.. Washed head to toe.. then hair.. rinse.. conditioner.. rinse.. and still the hot water was going strong. Could this be?? I didn't time the shower, but didn't feel I needed to either. Done, with time to spare.
My first impression was that surely it must be using more water than 1.5 gpm, so I determined to measure it. With wide open faucets at 40 psi, I captured the water in a waste basket for one minute and measured it with the large kitchen measuring cups.... 180 ounces... it was just as advertised at about 1.5 gpm at 40 psi (actually just slightly under that at 1.4 gpm)..
Need a shower head for low pressure or need a new one for the RV??? This is the ticket in my opinion.
Incidentally, I later found that this shower head is sold by RV supply places also; however, their price is nearly double what it is available for here... and it is the same thing.
Oh... should mention that it is "kinda" big as far as RV shower wands go.. but so what.. who is looking.. it is the result that matters.
Customer Review: Does what it says Summary: 5 Stars
The shower introduces air into water and creates an airy spray. Yes it creates an airy spray. Installation is very simple. A little help from the internet and I did it. I stay in a rental house and the water used to literally drip from the shower. There was no pressure at all. Not that the water pressure was not good, I think the shower head was faulty. In any case I went to walmart and looked at some showerheads, and they all cost about $10-15. At $30 I felt it was a good deal and bought this. The good thing about this is you can use it as a regular shower head as well as a hand held. Its great for me.
Now lets take a look at some of the complaints in the other reviews:
WATER GETS COLD:
As some of the reviewers have noted, it does lower the water temperature a little. So if you get just about warm to little hot water, or you like to take shower in steaming hot water then this ones not for you. For us there was no significant change in temperature. As I like normal hot water.
NO CHANGE IN PRESSURE OR WATER SPRAY IS AIRY
Ok some of the reviewers said that the water has more air. Well the whole point of the shower is supposed to introduce more air into the water so that we have more oxygen dissolved in the water. It is supposed to be a spa. If you don't like taking bath with a spray of water, then again this is not for you. It increases the pressure by introducing air into the water. So the water comes out as a spray mixed with air.
NOT STURDY OR MADE OF PLASTIC
Well for the price I am paying, I expect nothing more. It has some sturdy parts but most of it is plastic. If you are looking for something more sturdy or something made entirely of metal, you gotta pay more. Trust me, I have looked every where. Online, outside. For this price this is the best you ll get, at least for a hand held.
Well as for longevity I have only used it for about 1 month so cant say much yet. Will surely update my review as and when I see any changes.
Customer Review: Great water pressure Summary: 4 Stars
I got this showerhead because my boyfriend complained about lack of water pressure and I had seen it reviewed in a catalog that features higher end products.
I found the reviews here helpful but wanted to add a little information to the mix.
It really does increase the water pressure. Particularly at the top of the spray. This is great for shampoo rinsing. The spray fans out significantly and I find that I have to use the hand-held feature to adequately rinse soap from the lower half of my body. This is not a problem if you opt for the model with a hose. The design of the showerhead makes it very comfortable to hold.
Shower times also seem to be reduced since we began using it.
When I turned the shower off after the first use, I noticed that I really was running less than 1/2 the water volume as compared with my old showerhead. I was actually surprised at the reduction in water use.
For some reason, unkonwn to me, it seems to have a lag time when I adjust the water temperature during the shower. I didn't think a 60 inch hose could account for that much lag. But, maybe it does.
The only significant down side I found is the noise level. I know that sounds odd but, all the air mixing apparently makes noise. In this respect, it does remind me of a hotel showerhead. They always seem loud to me.
Since the spray pattern fans out so much, it wets down most of the shower surfaces. This makes spraying the shower with mildew/cleaner more effective. More water on the surfaces to distribute the cleaner. So, that automatic sprayer gadget I bought is really wonderful now.
I hope this information is helpful to anyone considering this purchase. It's not perfect but definitely solves water pressure issues and is easy to install and use. I would definitely purchase it again.
Customer Review: gives illusion of being stronger than really is Summary: 2 Stars
first i purchased another showerhead on this site, the sprite brand filtered one. (i reviewed that one as well.) i wasn't completely satisfied with the water pressure of it although i liked it well enough, and didnt notice much difference in water quality with the filter, so i decided to buy a strong pressured shower like this one claims to be just to try it out, since the reviews were very good. i bought it today from sharper image and just tried it tonite. i am very disappointed. first of all, let me tell you the way the water looks coming out of it is very deceiving... it looks like it's got a very strong pressure and would feel fantastic... also it's very noisy because of the air as well but dont let that fool you either. the water pressure is actually not good at all unless you pick it up and hold it about an inch from you, then it feels very strong, but it only feels good on your back that way, it's too harsh to be close to your face (got that kind of stinging sensation from the water). but when its sitting in its holder several inches from you, it feels weak. like it's all air with just a little water. it took a while to even rinse out my hair. as far as the other reviews that say it looks cheap and the hose is too short and that the air might make you cold, none of those things were true for me, well except that i did notice i had to turn the water warmer than usual, i guess the air did cool down the water a bit, but definitely didnt make me cold as one reviewer suggested. but if you want a nice hard, invigorating shower you will probably be very disappointed in this product. it's actually weird how much pressure it loses from one inch below it to several inches down. i guess the air really spreads out the water. im happily going back to my sprite showerhead and returning this one tomorrow.
Customer Review: As good as it gets Summary: 5 Stars
Oxygenics BodySpa SkinCare Handheld Shower, Chrome #130-XLF25We bought the 130-XLF25 after hearing rave reviews from four friends who are also Airstream owners. We are full-time living in our 25' Airstream trailer and installed it in our camper for the reduced water use (helpful if we are dry-camping and want to more slowly fill our rinse water holding tank) and especially for the increased water spray compared to standard shower heads.
This has been so fantastic, just as good as our friends claimed. In fact it is a little funny, we sometimes tend to use more water (when we have full hook-ups and don't worry about the amount of rinse water we generate) because this shower head spray feels so great.
When we want to conserve water better, we can turn down the volume on the Oxygenics' comfort control knob at the bottom of the handle and the spray reduces very smoothly.
The box included a hose and a holder bracket for the head, but we used the holder bracket already installed in our shower and attached it in-line between our existing hose and the new shower head. We couldn't use the holder bracket because we are attaching this to a shower control low in the shower. The included holder bracket would work great for a house. We saved the new hose in case we want to use it later, but didn't need it for now.
We highly recommend this shower head for a house or for a camper. It greatly improves the water spray velocity and has adjustable water volume. We can save water with it and still enjoy our showers.
