Tools and Hardware Reviews of Oxygenics 130-XLF25 BodySpa SkinCare Handheld Shower, ChromeCustomer Review: Worst shower head ever. Summary: 1 Stars
This shower head provides a blast of aerated water. This is not pleasurable to me, and it has not appealed to most of the members of my family. It is a little like being sandblasted clean! There is no way I would rinse my face or other sensitive areas with the direct stream from this shower head; it is just too harsh.
Another issue is the vast amounts of air flow this thing causes. Be prepared to increase the temperature of the water you use to shower, because the drafts and aeration cause you to feel quite chilly in the shower! The water cools quickly as it comes out of the shower head too (due to the air delivered with the water), so you may end up trying to hold the head close to your body, but that only increases the sandblasting effect mentioned above! I also had trouble keeping the shower curtain in place due to the draft created by the Oxygenics shower head. The curtain tends to flap inwards, right at you as you shower -- not much fun!
Finally, if you have a child or pet you wish to use this shower head on while they are in the tub, forget about it! This thing is so darn loud, no child or sensitive animal will sit still for you. The constant whoosh the Oxygenics creates sounds as if a large steam pipe has broken in a boiler room. Add to that the issue with the spray being so harsh, and you would never want to use it on a small child anyway.
This is the worst shower head I have ever encountered. But it is so unpleasant to take a shower with the Oxygenics that I did find myself and others taking very, very short showers. I recommend you totally avoid this shower head.
Customer Review: Quality Shower, but it doesn't sit snug in holder Summary: 4 Stars
The Good: I just took my first shower. I like it. There is an energizing feel to the water and the increased pressure from the shower head is satisfying. Installation with the included silicon tape was a breeze and it took only minutes to clean the old fixture (pipe of it's shredded silicon) and install the new. I am not one for gimmicky heads with 5 "massage settings". This one has one vibrant setting and it's excellent! You won't miss the gimmicks. I also like that you can vary the water flow with a twist of the handle to have less pressure, or simply to save water.
The Maybe: This head is huge. When in the holder it sits well above the shower door so I am worried about overspray when used sitting in the holder. So far no problems. The head and hose are largely plastic. I expected more for the price charged. On the plus side it seems well made and works as described.
The Bad: I find that the hose/head does not sit snug in the holder. Maybe I have installed it wrong as no one else seems to have mentioned it. The head lays unsteadily on the coupler or fixture. I assumed it would snap into a socket as is seemingly indicated in the photo. I worry that it could fall out and land on my toes or shift and spray over my shower door.
Final Conclusion: I like the feel of the spray. I'm not unhappy with it. The hose is a definite plus. I will adjust to the mechanics and size of the unit. In general, it seems well made and has a quality spray.
Customer Review: I would have paid twice as much. Summary: 5 Stars
In fact, before The Sharper Image went out of business, they did charge twice as much for this same model. Fortunately, I save a bundle at Amazon and get a great shower. I can't say enough good things about Oxygenics showerheads. I first experienced one at a hotel and it was so surprisingly invigorating that I wrote down the name and looked it up as soon as I got home. I've tried lots of different "shower massage" type products but none of them ever had any settings which felt as energizing and cleansing (while also saving water) as Oxygenics.
It's true that there is plastic behind the chrome, but it's durable enough without being heavy to hold in your hand. Oxygenics has revised their instructions to better explain the flow regulator (which an earlier reviewer mentioned as confusing). It is definitely not obvious from looking at it, so if you have guests using your shower, you might want to mention it.
Installation was very easy (and this is coming from someone who has trouble replacing an air conditioning filter). Due to the angle of the mounting bracket, the first couple of inches of hose are angled away from you, so it might have been nice for the hose to be just a tiny bit longer, but it's still a reasonably convenient length.
I cannot imagine ever going back to any other showerhead. If you don't decide to buy this model, you should at least buy one of Oxygenics' non-handheld models. They are simply amazing, and I plan to buy more as Christmas gifts.
Customer Review: Excellent Kit Summary: 5 Stars
I've been shopping for a shower head to replace the cheap and irritating shower head in my apartment. Part of the problem I've found is that either the shower heads are cheap plastic junk, have an excessive amount of settings that I don't need or want, or both. I took somewhat of a risk with the Oxygenics shower head based on some of the reviews.
I have to say, this shower head is absolutely wonderful. The installation instructions are actually readable English with clear pictures, and I found it is very easy to install. The only confusing aspect is that the instructions indicate to use a thin washer on one end of the hose and a tick washer on the other end, but the kit comes with two washers of the same size (at least I couldn't tell any difference between them). I suspect the product has been updated use one size washer but the instructions haven't been updated yet. Whatever the case, I found either washer works equally well on either end of the hose.
One feature I really like is that the shower head has a knob at the base to adjust the water flow from a slow trickle to a full blast. One caveat is that the shower head is noisier with a full stream than other shower heads I've tried, but I suspect this is because it uses similar principles as high-pressure nozzles at some car washes.
Customer Review: Not as advertised. Don't trust Amazon to sell quality Summary: 1 Stars
I was excited to receive this. I should have known when I opened the box and found no directions EXCEPT a blue paper that in large print had a number to call. BUT I needed this to work and I forged ahead calling my next door neighbor who is a Master Plumber to give me advice. He is still I am sure 24 hours later laughing. this is ALL plastic including the connection to my metal water outlet. It leaks at the connection it leaks at the connection to the connection, it leaks out of the connection between the less than 6ft hose and the handle, it pours out.
Look I had a master plumber helping me and we could not get the leaks to stop, we were afraid to tighten this any tighter because it was plastic and it would have broken. I paid $30 + for what can only be termed a waste of money. OH it was also advertised as good for low water pressure Need I say that also was a joke of course if I could have gotten it to stop leaking around the handle .... I am sure somehow that Amazon will push this in a drawer and keep right on selling this. No I can't return it I spent all I had on this and until payday I can't buy another and Payday falls after the return allowed phase. It has taught me a lesson. Don't Trust Amazon for anything beyong books and maybe DVD's
