Tools and Hardware Reviews of P3 International P4460 Kill A Watt EZ Electricity Usage MonitorCustomer Review: helpful-neat tool Summary: 5 Stars
I live in an all electric home and thou I know my major consumer of power in my home is the hot water heater this tool helped me identify what "vampire" items were most worthy of regularly disconnecting. The entertainment centers in each bed room TV,DVD,cable box, surround sound only consume about a $1.00 worth of electricity a month, my PC with scanner, printer, desk light 22in LCD and speakers cost me about $2.00 a month when left on 24-7 so putting it to sleep is a cost savings of about 65%.
The frige is about $3.55 a mo. Haven't checked out the cordless phones yet or microwave... but overall the Kill-a-watt is helpful to educate yourself of what uses power even when you don't use them and how much they cost you an hour, week, month or year...
Its also good way to show the kids how to be aware of wastefulness that you might not even realize...
Customer Review: Informative device Summary: 5 Stars
These days, everyone has electronics that stay plugged in all day. From routers to DVRs to All-In-Ones, I wanted to find out just how much money these devices are costing per month. Now I know! I love how you can plug something in and it immediately starts giving averages (yearly, monthly, etc.) so you can quickly find out how much it costs to run these devices. The longer you have something plugged in, the better the average should be, especially on devices that you frequently turn on and off, like TVs and Game Consoles. But to find out how much power a device is using when turned off (energy vampires) you can quickly get an average since that usage shouldn't fluctuate too much.
Overall, I'm extremely pleased with the device. I like being able to input my utility kilowatt-hour charge so I don't have to calculate the costs and averages myself.
Customer Review: Obsessed with the Kill a Watt EZ Summary: 5 Stars
My wife thinks I'm obsessed with the Kill A Watt EZ! I had more fun with this thing than you could imagine. It did just what I was looking for and not a lot of bells and whistles to deal with. I think I've plugged in every 110 appliance in the house (and the barn)! I got a lot of surprises on the efficiency of different stuff. It is quick and easy to set up with your utility rate and reset when you are ready to switch appliances. Extremely accurate too. Too bad it will not do 220 appliances (stove, hot h2o heater, drier) !!!!!!!!! Unit takes up both receptacles when plugged in, so I chose to use a lead cord most of the time. This made for easier hand held reading anyway. I put a lot of things on switches and power strips and I now know which freezer to empty first. (huge difference in freezers!) This thing will pay for itself fast. Matt
Customer Review: WORKHORSE OF ENERGY AUDITING Summary: 4 Stars
There are several versions of this meter. I own them all and I RECOMMEND THIS VERSION--THE "EZ' VERSION. The other popular version, the 4400, is slightly cheaper but does not project monthly and annual costs.
Positives of this meter:
- Instantly displays power consumption
- Tracks cumulative consumption
- Projects monthly and annual consumption
- Measures VA and power factor (for advanced users)
Negatives:
- User interface is not always intuitive
- Not accurate below 3 Watts. When checking standby power use the P3 International P4480 Kill A Watt Electricity Usage Monitor with Electronic Graphic Timer which is more expensive and more complex to use, but is accurate to 1/10th of a watt.
Customer Review: Saving us money right out of the box Summary: 4 Stars
We purchased this in an attempt to weed out which appliances are causing our electric bill to rise. It takes a little practice and some time interpreting the instruction manual, but it is worth it to see exactly what each item is costing on an hourly, daily, weekly, etc. basis. I would have given it 5 stars except for the fact that it can be very inconvenient to plug things into it. The prongs on the back are positioned in such a way as to take up the entire outlet cover, so anything else plugged in has to be removed first. This would be many times more user friendly if it had a short section of cord on the back so it could be plugged in and still positioned in such a way as to be more viewable too. You have to get down eye level with wherever it is plugged in to read its results because as soon as you unplug it the display goes blank.
