Tools and Hardware Reviews of PEET Dryer M97-FSB Original 2-Shoe Electric Dryer, BlackCustomer Review: Not Bad for the price, but not too Good Either. Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this item to dry mans sized shoes. I was a bit sceptical about it's performance, and my suspicions were correct. Someone said in a review it took about 6 hours to dry a pair of shoes for their kids, so I thought it would take twice that long for my mens shoes. It takes 24 hours for my size 11 tennis shoes, and if it is a pair of boots, count on two days. If you don't mind the wait, ok. The amount of heat there is at the end of the two rods is almost undetectable, but after 6 to 8 hours with wet shoes on them the feel is slightly warm and dry-ish around the inside upper surface area, but cold and wet everywhere else. I would like to see a version with around 100 watt output for the heat source. That might do the trick in a more reasonable amount of time. I believe these have a 42 watt output. Think of a 40 watt light bulb. They are flimsy so you will have to be careful. My guess is if I have to move then while heavy wet shoes are on them the riser rods will break, so be careful if you chose these. I give them 4 stars instead of 2 because they are not expensive, and not a bad price for what you get. If I had paid say 50 to 60 bucks, I would have given 1 or 2 stars.
Customer Review: Effective but feels flimsy Summary: 4 Stars
I'll start by saying this dryer is almost solid plastic. It feels flimsy but does stay upright, even with shoes or boots on it. It does not have a switch, so the only way to turn it on or off is plug it in or unplug it. There is no fan, just gentle heat that rises through the tubes and into the shoes, so it is completely silent. The base does not get hot at all, so it does not seem to be much of a fire hazard.
That said, it is very effective. My adolescent is often offending me and others with the odiferous nature of his feet and footwear. I bought him two pairs of sneakers and he alternates them daily, but I still occasionally have to bleach them to rid them of the odor. I bought this, attached it to a 24-hour timer like one you would use for lighting, and it is set to turn on in the evening. He puts his shoes on this thing and two hours later, the timer shuts it off. No more odor. Problem solved.
Even when I have washed the shoes, it only took about 6 hours to dry them completely from a sopping wet condition. It is not as fast as a clothes dryer for that purpose, but it is certainly effective and does not shrink the leather.
Customer Review: Great product for active feet Summary: 4 Stars
I bought the Peet dryer about two months ago and am very satisfied with the performance. I am on my feet up to 16 hours a day 5 days a week and I am required to wear steel or composite toe work boots. My old boots would get mildue in them after a few days, and no matter what powders, sprays or insoles I tried I could not combat the funk coming from them. When I bought a new pair of boots, I ordered the dryer. I have been putting them on the dryer every night when I get home, and when I take them off in the morning they are almost as fresh as new. The price for this dryer is worth every dime when I spend around $150 for a pair of boots, and the dryer in my opinion will make them last longer because I don't have to trash them when they smell so bad I can no longer stand it. The reason I didn't give five stars because an on/off switch would be nice (you have to plug/unplug), and a catch tray on the bottom to catch water from wet shoes/boots would be a welcome feature as well.
Customer Review: This'll git 'er done Summary: 5 Stars
I've used one of these for three years now with excellent results for hiking boots, Nordic ski boots, athletic shoes and rubber/leather pacs. Although the heat level is very modest - and therefore protects your footwear and keeps the electric bill low - it will thoroughly dry all but the very soggiest boots in a few hours. Also, it seems to eliminate any foul odors (who me?) in athletic or street shoes.
Here's a hot tip: put your already-dry winter boots on this Peet dryer before venturing out on a frigid morning and your feet will be truly toasty!
I've seen much fancier boot dryers and I see even Peet now makes a fancier version. And this product seems a bit pricy for something so simple that has no moving parts. But I'm not tempted to get anything else because this simple model is foolproof and "gits `er done."
Highly recommended for anyone who ever gets their boots or shoes wet while exploring the surface of our beautiful planet.
Customer Review: Wish I had bought one years ago! Summary: 5 Stars
I've had this product for about a week now and I love it! I wish I had one of these dryers years ago, as it would have saved several pairs of boots from an early demise. I use this mainly for my motorcycle boots which are leather and waterproof (read-very sweat inducing) and I didn't want to have to buy a new pair every year because they smelled awful (which was already starting to happen and it's not even summer yet!). I think this product is going to save me hundreds of dollars in boots over the next couple years! Now that I see how good this works, I do wish that I would have sprung for the double model so I could dry my riding gloves at the same time, and the double model has a timer which this one does not. The lack of timer isn't a big deal because it doesn't get hot at all, just warm. I highly recommend this product to anyone with foot odor issues!
