Tools and Hardware Reviews of PUR 2-Stage Vertical White Faucet Mount FM-3333BCustomer Review: Awesome ... For the First 6 Months Summary: 2 StarsI got this as a stocking stuffer for Christmas last year. I live alone in my apartment so this simple Pur filter was perfect ... or so I thought.
At the beginning of June, not even 6 months after I got it, the side of the plastic had cracked and a small stream of water was spraying from it. I stopped using the filter, but now even the point where the filter attaches to the faucet's nozzle it has began leaking.
I hate leaving bad reviews, but 6 months of having this product and it's leaking in two places is ridiculous ... especially considering that I live alone and it gets minimal traffic.
Next time I will invest the money in a high quality filter of a different brand.
Customer Review: Surprisingly flimsy Summary: 1 StarsThis does a great job of filtering water. I can taste the difference. However, the poor quality of this product leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
After 2 months of use (just after the 1st filter change), the aerator at the non-filtered outlet began to leak badly, spraying water horizontally. The leak got worse and worse, and I continually tried to patch it up with teflon tape, rubber gaskets, and eventually I resorted to foil and duct tape. Eventually the aerator shot off, revealing that the plastic holding the aerator on to the rest of the unit had cracked and degraded. The unit no longer leaks or sprays water horizontally, but unfiltered water now rockets out unimpeded, and sprays water everywhere after hitting the bottom of the sink.
It is usable for now, and I hope it lasts long enough to use my remaining cartridges. I have no plans to purchase another unit and I will be exploring other brands that get better reviews for durability.
The sad part is that the PUR 3 stage filters seem to be of high quality and I did enjoy the water that they produce. However, none of PURs faucet mounts appear to be of any quality, and it is a shame that a good filter can't be used due to shoddy design and construction issues of another part.
Customer Review: Surprised at the Bad reviews Summary: 4 StarsI'm surprised at all the low ratings that this device has gotten. I suppose I'm an easy to please fellow but if this Pur water filter lasts me 6 months, I will believe that I have gotten my moneys worth. I live in the city and it is tiresome lugging around gallon bottles of water from the store. I found myself rationing water because I did not want to go to the store.
One filter lasts me a good 2-3 months, easily. I really only use it for drinking, sometimes for ramen noodles. It has saved me many a trip to the store and has been easy on the pocket book. $12 a filter which does hundreds of gallons of water or $1.25/gal for distilled water (buying spring i.e. tap, is a great mystery to me). If the unit breaks, I'll buy another one. It's ~$25 and it comes with a filter. Puts it at around $13 for the head unit. Just pretend a filter costs $3-$4 bucks extra and get another faucet mount when it breaks.
I've always been annoyed at the slow rate of the gravity filtered purifiers like the pitchers. Way too slow, empties way too fast, and is a pain when you find yourself wanting a glass of water and you've found that the pitcher is empty. I'll take the added costs of replacing the faucet mount.
Customer Review: Many leaks after only 3 months Summary: 1 StarsThe indicator window will leak!!!!! ...and leak everywhere. I have had two of these things and they both leaked badly. My current one is being held together with a pip clamp which extended its life about 2 months. How hard could it be to develop a system that doesn't leak under normal household water pressure? I do like what it does to the water but come on, make the thing last more than a couple of months. Arghhh.
Customer Review: Sprung two leaks Summary: 2 StarsI had owned one before for years and it worked great. After it got misplaced after a move, I purchased this one. Worked fine for about a month and then it sprung a leak in two places.
UPDATE
When I contacted P&G on their website, they sent me a coupon for a free PUR filter. Great customer service! However, the new filter I purchased had something wrong with the gasket that tightens against the faucet and I couldn't get it to stop leaking (this wasn't a problem with the first one). I meant to return it but forgot and now it's been a few months so it's too late. Oh well.
I would lower my rating to a 1 star from 2 since both of them were bad.
