Tools and Hardware Reviews of PUR 3-Stage Horizontal Faucet Mount Chrome FM-9400BCustomer Review: Change is good.... Summary: 4 Stars

PUR has always been the choice for me when I am buying a tap mounted filtering system, so when I seen this new one there was no question that I would obviously buy another PUR. This version now includes a new quick release feature, which allows you to push two button on the filter system; allowing it to get out of your way quick! However after removing the filter you are left with water coming out of your faucet so pressurized that you cannot wash dishes or anything else because you get sprayed. This model also is low profile so it does not look like you have a giant egg sitting next to you faucet, like before when they stood vertically, and you swing it 360 degrees! It does have a filter indication light on it also, so you can tell when it time for a new one! The filter system does produce a better tasting water than tap water, and that is good enough for me. The filters are NOT on the pricey side either running about $9 for a filter.

i love how clean pur-filtered water tastes, but wow, the old faucet mount unit was flimsy - i went through 3 in one year. then i finally got this one, and i think i will not need to replace it until the battery filter-change indicator light goes out.
pluses:
- much sturdier and rugged at where it's mounted.
- VERY easy to install - no need to twist with a wrench.
- fits much better than the previous model.
- the same great tasting water.
my previous units had water coming out of where the faucet mount joined the spout for all 3 within a few weeks, but this one has been going strong for a couple of months, and judging by the looks of it, i don't think it'll fall apart like the earlier versions did. this uses the same stage-3 filters like the previous versions, so if you always like pur water filters but couldn't deal with their fragility, give the remodeled version a try.
Customer Review: Best filter in this price range -- great tasting H20 Summary: 5 Stars
For me, the quality of filtration and the taste of the water are most important. The Pur filter delivers both. The third stage of the 3-stage filter in which minerals are added back into the water makes for excellent tasting water. Other filters, such as Britta, simply remove everything leaving a less-than-desirable taste.
I've had no leaks or problems. Sure, this is not an industrial-strength or industrial-priced filter. Eventually something will give and it will need replacing. But I had my first Pur filter for four years. It lasted until I moved and I left the filter along with my old house. I bought a new one for my new place and in both sinks I had no trouble installing the filter.
I have absolutely no knowledge of tools or plumbing or anything remotely "handy" and it was a cinch for me -- so anyone can install one of these. Just look at the type of faucet you have and find the adapter that matches it. It's a no-brainer, really. Don't over or under tighten, and be sure to include the little rubber ring and there'll be no leaks.
Great taste. High quality filter. Reasonable price. Better than the competition.
Customer Review: PUR piece of crap Summary: 1 Stars
I have a Kohler single faucet ([...]).
The faucet spout seal and o-ring (71117) are not designed for the constant torque that is placed upon the spout with the heavy PUR filter system. The filter system itself is a engineering mistake as multiple parts of the assembly have obvious clearance issues and water constantly leaks from where the filter attaches to the faucet spout.
Prolonged rotation of the faucet spout with the PUR unit attached can led to pre-mature degradation of the spout seal and o-rings which can lead to surprise leaks (small and large) from the faucet when the water is turned on.
Filter changing system is based on time in use and not flow rate. The manual says that flashing "Red" indicates the filter needs to be changed because it is clogged. However, opening the filter assembly and closing it resets the filter indicator and a "clogged" filter is back working perfectly. The water tastes the same after the filter was reset in this manner and I do not see a bypass valve anywhere in the event that the filter is actually clogged.
Bottomline: Get another system that doesn't mess up your faucet.
Customer Review: Adequate, But Pricey to Maintain Summary: 3 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I like fresh coffee with clear water, the kind filtered from all pollutants and purifying agents. Until last month, I used a Brita pitcher to extract these unwelcome flavors. With the opportunity to try the "PUR FM-9400B 3-Stage Horizontal Faucet Mount Chrome," I hoped the convenience of using water directly from my faucet would change my mornings. It did. The water tastes as if it were from my Brita, and it was as easy and quick as expected.
Then it ran out. The green light indicating my filter was working turned to blink red. Red meant stop. It lasted two months, as long as the Brita, but the replacement filters cost twice the price.
The clean water was what I wanted, and all I need. The extra aspect of using it connected to my faucet is outweighed by the savings connected to using a simpler and as satisfying other product. To my Brita I will return.
