Customer Review: Cheap and Lightweight Just like the Rest of Them
Summary: 2 Stars

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
The most notable improvement with this water filter is the snap on installation, and the ability to swing the unit out of the way is nice. There are two release buttons on the neck of the unit that when pressed will release the unit from the faucet. That will make it easier to remove when the washer needs to be changed. I had an older model that screwed on and disliked it because it never seemed to stay tight. This model tends to drip a little after using it, and water remains in the filter chamber after cutting the water off, so I let it run a few seconds before filling a glass.

Also, I noticed that unlike the switch on the older models, the filtered water switch on this product is very flimsy. I accidentally turned it the wrong way, and it felt like it was going to snap right off.

The unit comes with 4 different adapters to accommodate a variety of different faucet types, two for inside threads, and two for external threads. Before tossing the ones that don't fit, take the washers out and keep them for future use.

The biggest complaint with all of these units and filters are the price. They are all light weight and after a year or so start to peel and chip around the edges of the filter holder. If looking for quality and filtered water, you should probably look elsewhere because this isn't it.

Customer Review: Excellent filter system
Summary: 5 Stars

Wow... so many people claim this leaks, but I have a few of them... purchased at different times... and none of them leak. I have one that is nearly 4 years old and still going strong with no leaks. I can only think that there are A LOT of people that aren't attaching it correctly. I would bet $$ that many people have cross-threaded the unit when attaching to the faucet.

The guy in the video review even has Teflon tape hanging out of the connection! If you use the tape, and it is hanging out, right there you have a gap that will cause it to leak. However, you shouldn't need any Teflon tape and I don't recommend using any. If you are using the tape because it is screwing on tightly & think this will help.... STOP. You are cross-threading it. Take it off & try again until it starts screwing on nice & smooth. The unit comes with several different attachments for various faucet styles. Make sure you are using the correct attachment. Make sure the rubber washers are in the pieces you are using. Make sure you put it on correctly. PUR is by far my favorite, if you compare boxes side by side, you will see that hands-down PUR filters out MANY more contaminants than any other pitcher/faucet mount style system.

Just keep in mind that you are screwing something plastic onto something metal. You may need to try a few times, you may get it on the first shot, but do NOT try and force tighten it, that is an indication you're not threaded on correctly & it will leak.

Customer Review: PUR Doesn't Work
Summary: 1 Stars

I had really anticipated my complete switch over to PUR from Brita because of the better taste and more comprehensive list of contaminants that PUR removes. There is no doubt this water tastes better than Brita. However, because water flows through the mechanism before it reaches the filter, contaminants build up inside and on the aerator. So, after two months of normal use, the flow of the water began to be held back until the pressure built up and forced the entire PUR unit and the faucet adaptor off of the faucet. In other words, while all the parts do their jobs, the filter container can no longer stay on the faucet because there can no longer be a steady water flow THROUGH the filter mechanics. The water flow just pushes the whole thing off every time I turn it on.

In addition, the PUR water pitcher filter that I bought for work decomposed into the filtered water basin along with the water. I followed the directions to a "T". When I poured the unfiltered water into the top reservoir, not only did filtered water come out at the bottom, so did a continual flood of black charcoal. I don't mean a scattering of charcoal bits like you get with any filter. I mean a heavy flow of carbon that completely covered the bottom of the pitcher with about a half-inch of carbon "sand." This experience plus my recent experience at home with the PUR snap-on faucet filter that won't stay on after 2 months of use, has convinced me that PUR doesn't know what it is doing with regard to the system for its filters.

Customer Review: Produced great tasting water, and so far is very reliable

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
We've had one of these for about a year, after having a Culligan unit that fell apart, but so far there are no leaks and the unit seems very durable. I know people have had problems with these, and perhaps I just got lucky, but it's also possible that the company has fixed some of the problems.

The water tastes great, and I attribute some of that not just to the filtering and charcoal, but also to the mineral pack that's in these (the "third" stage, I believe). Part of the reason bottled water tastes good is the addition of minerals, not just the absence of impurities, and so adding minerals to the filter is a nice touch.

Another reason I like this filter is that it's got a usage indicator that keeps track of how much you actually use the filter. You might think the company would use this as a gimmick to get you to buy more filters, but actually the opposite turned out to be true. The filter indicator actually told use to replace the filters LESS than the average time given by the manufacturer. This makes sense given that we have a small family of three, and one of us is mostly drinking milk.

So, all in all, I understand some people have had a tough time with these, but for what it's worth, we've had a great experience with ours.

Customer Review: Poorly engineered junk
Summary: 1 Stars

The filter itself is not the problem. It's the mount. The engineers (I'm being VERY generous here!) saw fit to only spend .7 cents, when they could have spent .47 cents to couple the filter to the faucet. The screw on PLASTIC mount only has about three threads to hold it to the faucet, which then "quick" couples to the filter housing. IF they had JUST made that screw on mount out of brass,...AND given about FIVE threads to hold the coupling in place it would work fine,...BUT NO!!! These cheap SOB's give you a chincy little three threads of PLASTIC, with about a pound of filter+housing (+ water weight filled) hanging off the end of your faucet it can do nothing but fail,....which mine did! This is the second PUR faucet filter I've had. The first lasted about 6 years, and finally cracked,...I was very satisfied with it's life. They don't seem to make that same model anymore....!?!? So I bought this abomination. Same filtering system, just a different mount. Cheap so, and so's! I'd love to slap the crap out of the jerks who foist this kind of junk on the public!!!

If enough people squawk, MAYBE PUR will have to FIX the mount?? Bottom line,...I LIKE the PUR filtering system, the one I USED to have. This new one I'd like to take to PUR's headquarters and SHOVE in some corporate numbskull's you know where! I'm going to send a re-print of this to PUR,...If it will help, who knows, but the mount would be a simple fix to re-engineer,...by someone with half-a-brain!
