Tools and Hardware Reviews of PUR 3-Stage Horizontal Faucet Mount Chrome FM-9400BCustomer Review: Very easy installation Summary: 4 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
This installs very easily. I didn't need any tools. The instructions are worth reading over - they are very short and concise but will save you some fiddling.
The unit is not metal, it is plastic that is painted to look like metal.
When I first put my faucet adapter on, it just leaked and leaked. Doing exactly what the instructions told me NOT to do, I took the washer out. (My old one that I took off didn't have a washer either.) After that, the adapter fit better and I did not have any leaks at all. Counter-intuitive? Yes, but that was my fix.
Units come with 1 filter. Replacement filters run (In GA.) about $8-12. Pur is very good about putting out coupons though, often on the web, and you can save another 1-3 dollars that way.
The water tastes good. It does not remove fluoride.
The unit is a bit big, but it swivels to the back and out of the way. There is a little light that lets you know the status of the filter. It comes on when you move the bar to filtered or unfiltered, so it doesn't stay on all the time.
Customer Review: PUR, once a quality brand, is now lowsy Summary: 1 Stars
Having used PUR filters in the military for years with great performance and their first consumer faucet-mounted filters for many years with good performance and durability, my original PUR vertical model - w/moving dial - finally wore out, so I replaced it with this. Within two filter changes, the idiot-light indicator quit working (with the difference between orange and red being barely discriminable anyway), so now I'm reduced to either changing filters by calendar-date or buying another faucet mounting.
However, after looking at reviews of several other of their models, I see repeated complaints of poor materials and poor durability. It is a shame that a company with a great brand name and long reputation for quality has decided to trade that back for quick bucks. It's another good example of "hidden" or "quality" inflation that goes uncounted in the government's measures of inflation - i. e., paying the same or more dollars for poorer and poorer quality merchandise that requires replacement more often.
They still claim high efficiency filtration for their products, but I'm skeptical enough, given these other readily visible declines in quality, to wonder whether their filters are really delivering what they claim regarding purification.
Customer Review: This Model Works for Me Summary: 5 Stars
When I bought the house it had a PUR FM-9100 on the kitchen sink. It worked OK for awhile, despite a small leak. I just had to be careful to avoid the unfiltered water dripping over the side while filling a container with filtered water. Finally got tired of the leak and decided to remove it from the faucet to check it out. That was no easy task, requiring use of a pipe wrench to loosen the plastic nut. What I found was a build up of calcium all over the little screen at the unit's inlet. No wonder water pressure was pushing water out at the connection! So I cleaned it out, replaced the filter element, and tried to reconnect it to the faucet. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't get it to stop leaking. I wasn't too hopeful after reading some of the reviews here, but I had a $10 off coupon from BJ's so I went and bought one of the FM-9400B click on models. I read the instructions and it looked like the "A" adapter was right for my faucet. It worked like a charm and was easy as pie to install. After 5 minutes flushing the filter, I gave the unit a work-out, switching from filtered to unfiltered a number of time. No leaks! And now I can remove the unit occasionaly to clear out the calcium build-up, without using that pipe wrench. I'm happy so far.
Customer Review: Easy to Install. Improves Water Quality. Bulky Summary: 4 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
This little filter is very well thought out. There are three things that really stood out about it.
1. It is amazingly simple to install. I needed a pair of pliers to remove my old aerator but after that was off I put the new one one and attached the filter. Whole thing too about 6 minutes. Five minutes to find pliers and a minute to screw the new aerator on and install the filter housing. Easy-peasy.
2. We have nice tasting water in our town. It doesn't taste like chemicals or other forms of water nastiness. But it is amazing the difference in taste with this. It really does help. It is also much faster to get filtered water than from our fridge.
3. The silly thing is really bulky. It don't know who to get around this on their part, but it is really large. I have found to fill my big pot with water I have to remove it to fit the pot in the sink and then replace it. The little clips are easy enough to push in to get the filter off.
All and all I like it.
Customer Review: Makes my Mouth WATER ! Summary: 5 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I have yet to speak with anyone who likes dirty, tasteless water. Almost to a person each likes fresh and clean basically tasteless water. PUR 3 stage water faucet provides about the best water I have tasted.
I installed this one on the kitchen sink and am quite delighted with its operation since its installation date around 3 months ago. The adapters worked perfectly and we have no drips (excluding the writer, that is) and above all we have fresh, clean water - consistently. I like the profile with its low somewhat invisible (not really invisible but you get the idea) but above all effective. The filter was changed a few days ago and I could not detect any foreign substances in it nor could I smell any bad odors. I do not know the material used to make the faucet; however, it feels as if it is plastic and if so I have to wonder if it will last as long as the sink faucet. If it lasts for over a year then I feel as if it carries a reasonable price. Just producing great water is the best part.
