i ordered this filter on 23 april 2006. i followed the instructions to the letter & the filtered stream was barely more than a trickle. i thought that i should give it a chance, so i let it go. the indicator NEVER moved & i began to get concerned about it. well, EXACTLY one month (Amazon's return time-frame) later, the stupid thing was LESS than a trickle. i emailed Proctor & Gamble thru the PUR website & phoned their toll-free number several times (NO ANSWER/NO VOICEMAIL) & received NO reply to my email until 12 july, by which time, i had already contacted Amazon & returned the thing & received a full refund. guess what the P&G email said:
"Thanks for your email about Pur. Unfortunately, because of technical difficulties and high volume, we are unable to answer your message. We're working hard to resolve these issues, but wanted to make you aware of the situation.
If you are in need of a response, we invite you to call us at 1-800-787-5463 Monday through Friday from 9:00 to 5:00 EDT."

Purchased this filter about two months ago. The usage indicator suggests we have a long way to go. No problems at all, so far. One of the faucet connectors included in the box allowed for a very easy installing.
Our impression is that the filtered water is unqualifiedly superior to the one we have tried for years using Brita filters (not faucet-connected). The filtered water flows with a constant outstanding speed.
Prior to purchasing the product online, I had read through many reviews of this and competitive products.
Of all filtering methods available, this one seems to be the most advantageous and practical. The cost is most competitive.
Some reviewers have complained that the product begins cracking after a year of usage. For the price, one year life-time is not bad at all! Perhaps some unsatisfied reviewers were not handling the piece with due care. When activating, the apparatus is to be turned downward; of course, this should be done gently (even though the piece is pretty sturdy). The user is also warned never to use hot water through the filter.

We got our first Pur unit in 2002. It was black and all plastic. It worked like this unit without the fancy LED light and "detach" mechanism. After using it every day for 8 years, it finally developed a leak. Since we cannot find the same model that we've been using, we bought a unit similar to Model FM-3333. After using it for a couple of weeks, the plastic chrome plating (where the water comes out) fell off. We were disappointed so we called PUR and they sent this model as replacement. It worked great for about a couple of months then the rubber adapter (flimsy) gets loose. We tried tightening it a little and the it will lose thread. Therefore, the unit just drops off the faucet often.
We wish that PUR still make the product that we got 8 years ago. It was simple but a workhorse. We spent a lot of $$$ from buying filters for that unit so it will make a perfect business sense to make a unit that is reliable as that unit again.
We used to be evangelists for this product. Now, we are considering buying from another manufacturer with very good reviews here in Amazon.

I have owned several of these PUR water filters, but recently needed a new one (the old one was leaking). I purchased a new version of the same thing at a local store, though it now has an electronic indicator to show when the filter needs changing and a new, easy mounting system. That model has very shallow, plastic threads and does not fit my faucet so that it easily falls off. So, I turned to Amazon and then bought this one based on the product description and the photo. However, when it arrived, it was not the original vertical mount filter shown in the photo, it is the new model with the easy-mount system. The product description on the website does not mention either the new attachment feature or the electronic indicator light, so I believed it was the other model. I returned the product for a full refund, however, Amazon did not refund the return shipping cost, which I believe it should have, since the product that arrived was not the one depicted or described.
If this fits your sink, I imagine it will work fine, as well as the other models have for me in the past.
Customer Review: Cheaply Made Water Filter

I owned an earlier version of a PUR water filter that had a window with a red indicator to show when the filter was ready to replace. After 1 1/2 years of use, the filter started leaking around the indicator window. I called PUR to ask about this and they said there was nothing to do to fix it, but they wanted me to be happy, so they sent me a coupon to get another water filter for free. I used the coupon to get Model 3700B. It has an easy snap on installation, the water flowed through the filter faster than the previous filter, and the water tasted good. However, after using it for two months, the whole installation just flew off the sink faucett into the pile of dishes in the sink. It did this several times after reinstalling it. It appears the plastic connection to the faucett has stripped threads or something because it will no longer hold the unit on the faucett. The company seems to want customers to be happy, and they could do that by making a product that doesn't fall apart. I would recommend not wasting your time and money with one of these filters.
