Tools and Hardware Reviews of PUR 3-Stage Vertical Faucet Mount Chrome FM-3700B

Customer Review: Disposable
Summary: 2 Stars

I bought my Pur faucet filter to replace a Brita. I wanted something with a more convenient shape and that offered a stronger flow of filtered water, and Pur did provide those benefits. While it lasted, the water tasted great, which is why I give it two stars.

The problem is, the unit starts falling apart rather quickly. Pieces of cosmetic chrome started falling off after just a few months. I decided the quality of water was worth putting up with an ugly faucet mount, and just continued on replacing filters for the unit. Then, within a couple of months of that, a crack opened up in the replacement monitor casing. I have been very careful about not running hot water through the filter, so this has to be the result of a design flaw. However, I was able to get a few more months of life out of the unit by slapping some aluminum tape over the crack. The crack has finally widened to a point that no amount of aluminum tape is going to save it. I thought about trying plumbing epoxy, and then realized that I'd probably save myself a lot of headache if I just replaced the unit altogether.

It will not be a Pur.

*Also worth noting: the refill cartridges are not recyclable, and P&G has no immediate plans to address that issue.

Customer Review: Leaky for sure
Summary: 3 Stars

I read the reviews for this item but decided to try it anyway. I've used Pure products for years and was used to high quality results. Unfortunately this version does leak from the bottom as others describe. It only leaks when the filter is engaged. There is no crack, and it is installed correctly. It doesn't matter how low or high the water pressure is. It just drip ... drip .... drips. I have to be careful not to let the rouge water drops fall into whatever container I am trying to fill.

Other then that, it is great. I always choose Pure for it's great filtered water quality. I had high hopes for this design because it installs in a snap, is so easy to use, and fits even my very short mini-goose neck faucet with enough room for clearance to move it from side to side in my sink. I was worried I wouldn't have enough clearance to do dishes of fill gallon jugs. There is just enough room (barely) to do both. Too bad it drips. I want to like it enough to buy another when this one croaks but I won't. Nope.

Customer Review: Kind of a "why bother" because it leaks.

Like many others here, I've had a problem with this product cracking and leaking in the same spot (near the "Filter Life Monitor").

I have purchased 2 of these now in succession, both had the same defect.

The first developed a leak after the first replacement filter, right at the little window where you can monitor the filter life.

Because I had bought a 3 pack of replacment filters I decided to try again, perhaps the first leak was a fluke.

The second experienced a leak in the same spot-- on the first filter.Once these things are leaking you are mixing filtered water with unfiltered and what is the point?

I've read reviews dating back at least 4 years from customers having the same problem.

If there is a defect or a problem in manufacturing it doesn't look like Pur (and Proctor and Gamble) is addressing it.

I guess I'll try the pitcher style filter, I most likely won't be purchasing a Pur model.

I've used Brita before for the pitcher style and they seem to work fine.

It really is too bad that the thing doesn't work, because otherwise the design and price and installation all seem to be as advertised on the box.

Customer Review: Easy to install, easy to use
Summary: 5 Stars

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
The unit comes with 4 different adapters. It took about 2 minutes to select the correct adapter and install the unit, and it feels more stable than my Brita version, which was a bit more trouble to install. It pivots out of the way without loosening, nice when you're cleaning the sink.

You can flip easily between filtered and unfiltered water (so you're not using filtered water to wash your hands or dishes), and it's as fast as pouring a glass of tap water. Nice filtered water without an expensive system or waiting forever on the filter pitchers.

It was incredibly easy to install, attractive, and I really like the easy on/off switch. I have a Brita sink filter on another sink and this one beats it in ease of installation, ease of use, and looks. The filters seem to cost about the same as the Brita ones.

The water tastes great (we have very hard water and I hate the taste of tap water here), and it's an easy way to encourage more water-drinking.

Customer Review: Started leaking in less than two months
Summary: 1 Stars

About three years ago, I bought a Pur faucet unit and was very pleased with it... so much so that I bought a four-pack of replacement filters before I moved a year ago. When I moved, I decided to buy a new Pur faucet unit since the old one had become calcified. Within six months, the new faucet unit had started to leak from every seam of the unit: the edges of the meter window, the faucet seal, the seal around the cap, and the joint that joins the main body to the faucet attachment. Everywhere. The volume of water coming out of the sides was at least equal to the volume coming out of the filter spout, if not more. Since I was still stuck with three more replacement filters, I foolishly decided to buy another Pur faucet unit. Big mistake. This one started leaking within TWO months, however this leak isn't a general gushing from the sides like the last unit. This leak is a shooting, high pressure stream that comes straight at you from the meter window. To use the filter you have to cover the entire window with your hand, or you get soaked. Now, I am stuck with two more replacement filters and wet shirts. Thanks Pur.

In short, do anything you can to avoid buying this product. Your tap water can't be that bad.
