Customer Review: Great expectations, faulty execution.

When it worked, it was great, with good tasting water. Unfortunately it started leaking some two months afterwards (and this is the second faucet we bought). It must be so poorly engineered that it was probably designed either by the Army Corps of Engineers, or a family member of a P&G bigwig. When using this defective leaking faucet, you end up mixing unfiltered water (as it dribbles or shoots form the side) with the filtered, defeating the purpose of the product (unless the sole purpose is for P&G to make money from this system). I suggest that PUR should set up a recall area on their website for the faucets and/or take back unused filters from customers that have been affected. The reviews on Amazon show a common thread. I've been through 2 since July. The first one started developing hairline cracks after a few months, and the one I have now is starting to crack as well. The cracks are smaller this time, and I managed to patch them up with crazy glue. We'll see how long it lasts. This is my second one of these. The first had such a low flow of filtered water I got tired of waiting 10 minutes to fill a glass, so I took it off after about 5 filter changes. My current unit (different city) sprung a leak in the usage indicator window (which never worked no matter how long i used a filter). Now, water either snakes down the side of the thing and back into my glass, defeating the purpose of a filter, or it shoots out, spraying whoever is using it.
Aside from that, it doesn't seat very firmly, so you'll have to tighten the fitting about twice a week. Lastly, a piece over the faucet fell off. I slide it back on, but it comes off eventually on it's own again.
This thing's junk. The filters are expensive and hard to find unless you order online in large quantities.

This is a review for the faucet system, not the filter. The filters are excellent but this particular faucet system has horrible build quality. I have been using this for 3+ years and finally gave up on them. Since you twist the WHOLE filter and not just a knob like in other systems, it is bound to produce leaks and cracks. My last 5 filters have all been P&G replacements, and they are quick to send a replacement coupon.
The only good reason i can think of with these are that there is a nice red bar for filter life indicator which is really a Gallon counter and has nothing to do with actually measuring the life of the filter. If you open the filter system and take out the filter and put it back in halfway through the filter life, it will reset the status bar (you should have a good reason to do so! )

After reading some of the reviews about this faucet mount, I was concerned with the problem some people were having with leaking. After comparing it to other faucet mounted systems, I was finally convinced to give the PUR FM 3700 3 stage vertical mount a try. I liked the the high marks for filtering and the the number of chemicals that this system filters. When I installed the mount I used teflon tape on the threads on the faucet connection and on the bottom of the mount where the filter goes in. So far, we haven't seen any signs of leaking. We have relatively low water pressure at our house, so that may factor in as well. We've had the mount a few months, and so far we are very satisfied. It seems to do an excellent job filtering water. Our water comes out tasting great and very clear.
