Tools and Hardware Reviews of PUR FM-9400B 3-Stage Horizontal Faucet Mount ChromeCustomer Review: Good Product Summary: 5 StarsI was hesitant to buy this product after reading the bad reviews. However, I didn't have any problems with the hardware: it didn't crack, break or anything. Also, I was concerned when I read that the amount of water that comes out when you use the PUR filter would be little, but mine works fine. Water tastes good, I'm very happy with PUR. Maybe I was lucky, but based on what I got, I would highly recommend it to friends.
Customer Review: Good water, product doesn't last Summary: 2 StarsI've owned two of these Pur water filter systems in the past two years. Foremost, the product is made of plastic and the outer casing is very thin and easy to chip or crack. The product does hang down from the faucet, so if you will be using any large pots, plan on hitting the filtration system multiple times (possibly chipping or cracking the plastic). The filter does a good job filtering the water. I can't notice a difference between Pur filtered water and most bottled. That said, this filter is not meant to last long. The mounting nut/o-ring assembly that connects the unit to the faucet has failed on both of the Pur filters I've owned. With my most recent filter, this has happened within a year of buying it new. The o-ring assembly used in the connection seems brand specific and the replacements I've purchased from plumbing supply stores don't work. Maybe there's some other o-ring inside the assembly that failed? From other reviews here on Amazon and elsewhere, this connection assembly and o-ring failure seems to plague these Pur filters.
Now that I need to buy a new filtration device, I'm going to look at other brands. If you decide to buy one of these Pur filters, though, I'd recommend never purchasing a replacement filter. When it's time to replace the filter, just buy a whole new unit. It'll cost only a few dollars more and will save you from having water spray all over your kitchen as a result of a failed o-ring.
Customer Review: Leaking Makes it a Waste Summary: 1 StarsGreat in theory; however, as other reviewers have noted, the filter's propensity to leak makes it a total waste.
I've had to replace the unit multiple times (both white and chrome) and no matter what I do (including using Teflon tape around the connectors) the units always find a place to leak severely.
Customer Review: Believe it--this thing really leaks Summary: 1 StarsNothing different to add, just need to make it plain that when you read all the other reviews that say this particular model leaks, it's not a minor, petty complaint...the thing shoots water every which way after a few months.
Customer Review: Pur faucet mount filter Summary: 1 Starsthese filters are poorly made, third filter purchased and they have all cracked or had the threads to filter strip out, filter is hard to access.
Just purchased a Brita filter to replace the Pur and the Brita is superior.
