Tools and Hardware Reviews of PUR FM-9500 3 Stage Horizontal Faucet Mount with 2 Filters ChromeCustomer Review: Poor mounting adapters break weekly! Summary: 1 Stars
No longer able to get the vertical mounted filter I've used for a decade, I purchased this horizontal mount. In a word, AWFUL! The adapters only screw on by 2 threads. If you give this thing even a minor bump while washing dishes, or whatever, it pops off and threads back on, but will leak and spray. I've called the company twice and both times, they have offered to send me a new set of adapters. Of course, the same thing happens again within 7 or 8 days. The customer service people in India, while courteous, have not been trained in the scripts when a customer complains about thread length, etc. They can only send new cheap, plastic faucet adapters that take 3 weeks to arrive. They won't refund my money or give me one of the old filters that worked just fine. Of course, we have 3 filter cartridges left to use and they were expensive. If you've not already been duped, look elsewhere. They are run by Proctor and Gamble if you want to avoid all their stuff and crummy customer service.
Customer Review: Bad tasting water Summary: 1 Stars
About 6 months ago we discovered that the Pur counter top water filter that we have used for years was discontinued. We were very happy with it. So, we decided to purchase another Pur product. We purchased the Horizontal Faucet Filter. We ARE NOT happy with this one. To start with, it drips water down the back, it never tells us the filter needs changed, and it started leaking after about 3 months. About a month ago the water started tasting bad, so we thought we would change the filter (since it never tells us it needs changed), but the water continues to taste bad. The whole thing splatters and leaks like crazy. Now, my husband is an engineer and we are both college graduates...so we read and follow directions to the T on the package...but the water tastes horrible. We wish we had our old counter top filter back. But, since they don't make that we will be changing products to a different brand. What a waste of money!!!!!!!!

I am surprised at the negative reviews as my filter has worked excellently from the time I put it into service two years ago. I especially like the feature that indicates when the filter cartridge needs to be replaced. The PUR unit definitely improves the taste of the water, removing the chlorine taste and leaving a freshness not only to drinking water but also to water used in cooking. Pasta, especially, tastes much better made with filtered water. If removal of heavy metals, such as chromium, is not an issue in your area (the PUR filter does not remove these substances) then this is a less expensive by far alternative to a reverse osmosis filter and produces water as clean and clear as 99% of bottled drinking water and will save you lots of money.
Customer Review: Buy a different filter Summary: 1 Stars
I've owned other PUR filters and they've worked well. This one is not one of them. The company redesigned the faucet mount in this version which dumps the water out the bottom and then back along the horizontal faucet mount. So after spending money to get filtered water, you now need to wash the faucet mount to keep the water clean since the hole that the water comes out of no longer has the penny's worth of plastic to keep it from running back along the housing. This one is in our office and I regret buying it. Buy the one that has the slider instead of the one with the fancy indicator light and you'll avoid this problem.
Customer Review: Look elsewhere Summary: 1 Stars
After 3 months the filter starts to leak water from every seam (not at the gasket where the front screws off but the seams where it is put together). The manufacturer, Procter & Gamble, is evidently aware that this is a problem because when I called in last year (after owning it for 3 months) they replaced the unit as soon as I described the problem. After using the replacement for about 3 1/2 months, it started exhibiting the same problem and the leaking gets worse each month. I have owned much cheaper Brita filters that never had such problems and I now wish I had never given PUR a chance.
