Tools and Hardware Reviews of PUR MineralClear Faucet Refill RF-9999, 6 Pack

Customer Review: Buy six-pack, save money
Summary: 5 Stars

This is the standard three-stage replacement filter for PUR faucets. It's their best filter. [They only have two kinds anyway -- three-stage and two-stage. :) ] You save a lot of money when you buy the six-pack. I'm satisfied with this faucet-filter system. Water tastes good and it's less than half the cost of buying one gallon or 2.5-gallon drinking-water bottles at the supermarket. The only drawback is that it takes about 2 minutes to filter a gallon of water. But, then, you don't have to carry water from the grocery store. Also, the filter lasts for only about 25 gallons and then the indicator light starts flashing red, not 100 gallons as it is claimed. I didn't have leakage problems with this faucet system as mentioned by some others. Make sure that gaskets are properly placed and use only gentle tightening for the faucet nut and filter cover during the installation.

Customer Review: Some feedback about filters
Summary: 1 Stars

I have not purchased these filters from Amazon and judging by the reviews I'll probably buy them where I purchased the unit to make sure the packaging looks OK. I'm posting here to let folks know that I contacted Pur about the way the filter works; is it a granulated active carbon (GAC) filter or a solid block of activated carbon? They informed me that it is a solid block of activated carbon. If you are going to purchase ANY type of water filtering system it needs to be activated carbon in solid block form, so I was pleased with their answer. I am now more inclined to believe their claims on the types of materials that it can filter. Go to [...] and check out their products if you're still skeptical and are looking for a different manufacturer. I'm going to give the Pur filter a try, but just not going to buy what sounds like knock-off replacement filters here!

Customer Review: No More Bottled Water
Summary: 5 Stars

I moved to Florida from the northeast several years ago, and one of the first things I noticed was the quality of the drinking water which, to put it politely, leaves something to be desired. And so for the first time in my life I found myself buying bottled water in plastic jugs for drinking and cooking. Lugging gallon-jugs of bottled water, and having to dispose of all those empty plastic bottles on a regular basis, became tedious and, to my mind, wasteful. Then I came across these at a local retailer and decided to give them a try. Voila -- the difference was truly amazing. My local tap water went from worst to first!! At $22 a pop for replacement cartridges at a local retailer, it was worth the cost. But now, having found these on Amazon at $51.99 for a six-pack, the cost has become a virtual non-issue. Kudos to Amazon and PUR!!

Customer Review: HAPPY FOR SEVERAL YEARS WITH PUR FILTERS
Summary: 5 Stars

I have had a PUR faucet filter for several years - only reason I had to replace the unit was because I broke it when trying to remove the filter - the newer ones are "cheaper" but they do seem easier to get open to replace filter! I have not had any problems with replacement filters. They do not last too long - maybe 1-2 months and I only use for drinking water and coffee water - however, the water here in our town in Oklahoma is TERRIBLE!! It is not drinkable unless filtered and we always get reports on all the crap that is in our water, so I don't expect it to last as long. And it must be working, as when I change the filter it is very heavy compared to new one! At less than $10 per filter, it's still waaaay cheaper and better on the environment than buying all that bottled water!

Customer Review: Overstated filter life, useless customer service
Summary: 2 Stars

Pur Stage Three filters do improve the taste of my water. I don't know if they are actually saving me from all the bad things they are claiming to save me from. I'd need a lab analysis for that. Sadly, the good news about the water ends with its good taste.

As other reviewers have pointed out, Pur largely overstates the longevity of its filters. I get no where near 100 gallons; maybe about half of that. Also, the "indicator" window is totally useless. My output can be reduced to a trickle for weeks and the red lever never moves beyond about a third of the window. Lastly, don't let Pur's friendly "we're here to help" 800 number fool you. It's a telephone tree where all branches lead to the same destination: a dead end recording that suggests you buy another filter.
