Not a water snob, but I've been using PUR filters on my Whirlpool side by side for a couple of years, and they work at least as well as the OEM brands that can be purchased at Lowes and Home Depot. The water produced by the filter is clean and clear, odorless, and without any taste at all. It installs easily and it also makes good coffee. There have been zero problems with this filter, or its flow rate. A similar filter from Lowes is $44.88, and I don't think it is any better than the PUR. I plan to keep buying these on Amazon for as long as I own the refrigerator.Customer Review: Works great but still red-lighted

I installed the PUR water filter in my KitchenAid Superba refrigerator with no problem. It seems to do a great job filtering the water. However, my refrigerator has a filter monitor that is a green/yellow/red light that tells you if the filter needs to be replaced and the light stayed red and I couldn't get it to turn green. I had replaced that filter with a GE filter before and the GE filter made the light change to green. I consulted the manual and re-installed the filter but it is still red one month later. Next time I will use the GE filter.Customer Review: Awesome Filter

My filter light came on again and when I went to purchase the exact brand model filter I was told it was over $47 to replace it. That is just ridiculous! So, I decided to research Amazon and I found the PUR filter. It was half the price and I figure I'd give it a try. Well not only was it free shipping it arrived in half the time (as usual to Amazon) and the filter fit perfectly.
The water tastes great and I have no complaints and I have forever found my replacement water filter.

The filter was easy to install, and the water taste great! We live in a city and the Chlorine is really noticible out of the faucet, now we can get clean tasting water out of the refridgerator and be completely satisfied. GOOD BY bottled water! Oh and the ice is great to, it doesn't change the taste of your drink.
There were many choices of brand filters, I am sure others were good, however I have heard of PUR and i know they know water filtration.

Very disappointed. I wanted to get a non-Whirlpool brand filter that was highly rated. Thought this would be it. Unfortunately the stem is 1/8th of an inch too long and won't lock into place. Had to return it. Guess I have to get the Whirlpool filter (Whirlpool 4396510 KitchenAid Side-by-Side Refrigerator, Quarter Turn Cyst Reducing Water Filter, 1-Pack).
