Tools and Hardware Reviews of DataShark 70018 Cable TV "F" Compression Bundle with Cable Cutter, Coax Stripper, Compression Crimper, and 10 RG6/RG6-Quad Cable TV "F" Connectors

Customer Review: Works great
Summary: 5 Stars

Due to the price, I didn't really expect all that much. Since I anticipated needing to use it only once or twice in my life, I didn't really care.

This toolset exceeded my expectations greatly. These tools feel very solid, even the stripper, and actually feel like major overkill. The only part of the process that isn't "2 second-easy" is stuffing the cable into the connector... but that's nothing to do with the tools.

I wonder if the other reviewer got a bad stripper, or maybe he used it wrong. You just clip it on the cable and then twirl it. The spring clip provides all the pressure it needs.

Customer Review: Great Tool for the Do-It-Yourselfer
Summary: 4 Stars

I found that this bundle worked great with RG6-Quad cable. The stripper works great for making 2-level strips as long as you use it carefully and take your time. It's just plastic and the blade is very small, but it will do the job if you don't handle it roughly. The supplied compression connectors work fine with RG6-Quad and standard RG6 cable and the compression tool is a snap to use. About the only thing missing from this bundle is a flaring tool which would make installation of the cable into the connectors easier. If it had the flaring tool, I'd give it 5 stars.

Customer Review: Does what it's supposed to do
Summary: 5 Stars

From the tips here I bought mine at home depot for less, plus it comes with a case. I read the directions and at first nothing really worked. Connector fell off the cable after compressing. I then realized that the metal sleeve inside the connector has to fit under the cable outer layer while you push it in. Also, to save some people some grief, the stripper works better when you place the metal blade on the bottom while using it. I first had it on top and for some reason it kept slipping off the cable while turning it. all in all does what it's supposed to do pretty well.

Customer Review: This tool did not work for me
Summary: 1 Stars

I am unhappy with this tool kit. The stripper is cheap plastic with a little blade. The crimp tool tends to just push out the cable from the connector instead of actually crimping anything. I did finally get one on but after a month the tv started looking fuzzy. I went to wiggle the wire and it came right out of the connector. I am very handy with electrical and mechanical stuff around the house. One thing I can not stand is inferior tools and this is a cut rate tool for consumers. I'm not sure why everyone else is so happy with this product, I think it is junk.

Customer Review: Good tools, but compression connectors are too big
Summary: 4 Stars

Everything in this kit is well-made and easy to use for around-the-house use. However, I wish they included some smaller-size compression connectors. I worked on 3 separate cables around the house, and they were all too small for the included connectors. Even the quad-shield cable installed by the cable company was too small.

You can compensate by wrapping duct tape or extra shielding around the cable first, but that seems silly for an all-in-one kit.
