Tools and Hardware Reviews of Paladin Tools 1117 GripP 10 Wire Stripper/Cutter, 24-10 AWGCustomer Review: Excellent! Summary: 5 Stars
I usually do not give reviews but this little gem is well worth a review. The best feature of this stripper is the addition of the ability to strip 20-24awg wire which would usually require a second set of strippers. With the Paladin 1117 one set does 10-24awg. Very handy indeed! The second best feature of the set would be the angled head and ergonomic handle with real rubber grip.
Now for the good stuff. I am not a careered electrician. In fact I am a mechanical engineer. However when I need to do electrical work, I just plain need it to work. I searched for a long time for a good set of strippers before settling on these. Any real technician will tell you there is no such thing as an "all in one" tool. I compared the Paladin to everyone- Klein, GreenLee, Irwin, Snap-On, Craftsman, even Panduit (very expensive). True this set is made in Taiwan, but the packaging on the GreenLee, Craftsman and Irwin say they are made in China. Some (not all) Kleins are now made in China. Snap-On is USA (watch out for Blue-Point brand though)and Panduit is Germany. Like the Klein, Craftsman, GreenLee, Irwin and Snap-On strippers, the Paladin are made of the same stamped steel. Only one set of Snap-On's are cast steel (this is a multi-tool however with no spring return) so they were not compared. I was never able to tell by Panduit's website how they built their's (too expensive anyways).
One other nifty build feature is the hinge pivot. It is a large steel rivet instead of a bolt and nut. The rivet will not come loose unlike the problematic nut and bolt type. One other note: as long as you ONLY cut copper or aluminum wire, the cutters will NEVER dull. As soon as you cut any other wire, they dull and never work the same. THIS IS TRUE WITH ALL WIRE STRIPPERS!
For less than $15.00 this could be the best strippers! See I tried to keep it short!
