I bought this fan, hoping that it would provide some comfort for my patio outside. I do live on the water. However, this fan Quickly began to show rust after my purchase.
For use indoors, I would think this to be a powerful and quiet fan. However, for outdoor use, it's a No go. Wish I hadn't paid $50+ for a fan that quickly rusted. But again, the elements of the outdoors and being on salt water most likely was my own fault.

Just bought this fan a few days ago and like what everyone else has been saying, it is quite a powerful fan. Perfect for this time of the year where a lot of ventilation and airflow is needed. Especially when you get most of the western heat. A nice alternative if you don't have an air conditioner. When you sleep in a room that reaches triple digits during the summer and although it is quite noisy, it didn't affect my sleep at all.Customer Review: I LOVE THIS PATTON FAN

We had this same fan years ago. We loved it, and it laster for over l0 years. Since then I have been trying to find another one in MD/DC hardware stores, but I hadn't seen one. Finally I found it on the Amazon web site.
I love my new Patton velocity fan! It was easy to order. It arrived quickly and in perfect condition.

These are not exactly quiet, but if you wish your home had a "whole house" fan built-in, this is your next-best choice. I can place this on an open window's sill (I have to lash it to the sill, so it won't blow itself off), kick into high and you immediately feel a strong breeze everywhere in the house. I've never been sorry I bought this, some five years ago.Customer Review: a fan AND a great sound machine

We actually bought this to circulate large volumes of air (it will clear out the whole house in just a few mins) AND for the sound baffle it creates. Large fans make more noise, and this one is no exeception. The noise is about at the level of an expensive sound machine, and we use it to mask outside noises when we run the fan at night with the windows open.
