Tools and Hardware Reviews of Peerless 76410 Four-Spray Hand Shower and Shower Head Combo, ChromeCustomer Review: We are very satisfied with this unit. Summary: 5 Stars
After trying two other shower spray units (one costing 3 times more than this one and one costing double) I didn't really hold out much hope that this would be what we were looking for. Am I ever glad to say that I was wrong. The problem we were having was that our house was built back in 1975, not the time of BIG bathrooms. Some years back our renovation included completely removing the tub in this bathroom and having that space be shower only. The two spray heads we tried before were evidently intended for room-size shower stalls because with one the water went completely over my head, with the other it hit me full in the face. With no way to adjust them enough to have the water spraying "down" instead of "out" unless the shower head was held continually.
This unit by Peerless is working for us very well. With the two separate spray heads the combinations make it very easy to fit our application. A downward spray (to help with the confined space), a hand held unit (which I will use to help with shower clean-up, but my darlin' uses for massage) or use of both spray heads at the same time for maximum water coverage for two people who are very different heights. Both spray heads have all four settings (forceful full, soft full, massage or full spray with massage) so each person can easily design the type of shower that suits them best.
My husband had no difficulty installing the unit and by letting the hand sprayer hang down lose for about 12 hours the kink in it came right out. In a perfect world it would be nice for the hose to be about one foot longer on the hand held spray head. We expect to be using this unit for many years to come and highly recommend it. For this low price, there is not anything we've tried that even comes close to working this well.
Customer Review: Poor hose, otherwise good value Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this for the diverter portion only, which was worth the price, if you have been shopping these things, the brass diverters are around $35 and don't have a hook for the hand shower. I have a new shower and spent over $100 on a famous brand hand shower, hose and diverter. All plastic except the diverter and just as cheaply constructed as the low priced ones. What was really frustrating is the plastic wall mount for the hand shower with the more expensive one. I wasn't willing to commit to drilling holes in the new shower to mount such a cheap thing, which might or might not last. The features of this one were just what I wanted to avoid drilling the holes. Maybe someday I can afford a really expensive one. Until then, this has served me well. Being able to use both shower heads at once is also a plus.
Like the title states though, the hose is the weak link here. It is quite stiff and seems to be solid plastic. The rest of the unit is quite up to snuff, especially for the price. I used the hose from the more expensive kit I bought, which has plastic ends, but is stainless steel covered and more flexible and heavier, so it will hang more normally.
One thing I noticed about the leaking. If you use the rubber washer where the diverter mounts to the shower arm, it will likely leak. Both diverters I installed did this until I removed the rubber washer and used the supplied teflon tape only on the shower arm. The nut that mounts to the shower arm is brass, and must be tightened with a wrench or pliers, so you need to protect it with something so it doesn't get scratched.
A good twist seals the other plastic connections, I recommend one of those rubber jar openers to get a grip on it, or any good size piece of rubber works well.
Customer Review: JUNK Summary: 1 Stars
Updated June '10: The stationary part of this showerhead is busted. It's spraying straight up out of a weird location, and out of the shower so that it turns the entire bathroom into a wet mess. We can only use it on the setting that sprays out of the removable head attached to the hose. It looked like it might just need a new washer, but it turns out it's spraying out of a weird hole in the shower head, and it's nothing we can fix. I'm so sorry I picked this shower head.
Original review Jan '10:
My boyfriend years ago said how much he loved having the shower head combo, with one that is removable. So we got him one for Christmas. I was excited about it being I've never had anything like it before, but it fell short of my personal expectations. He likes it(supposedly!).
Our last shower head I bought at the Christmas Tree Shop(a new england discount store) with low expectations. It was 8 dollars, and was actually awesome! It was easy to adjust with fantastic pressure. After years of use though, It was starting to spray in weird directions and I knew it was time for an upgrade. Compared with that one, this shower head's pressure is sub par, even when only running one of the shower heads by itself. Also, now we can't have our shower hanging basket hanging off the shower head because of it's curve. It's fine for now and we'll keep it...but I thought it was worth a review.
Customer Review: Very displeased with product Summary: 1 Stars
I had purchased the Peerless 2-in-1 Chrome showerhead and was very pleased with it, so I decided to try another Peerless showerhead for my parents' shower.
For this product, the 4-Spray Shower System, I had to look up solutions on the internet (both generic shower head installation instructions and how to use teflon tape, since that was not described at all in the "easy-to-follow" instructions), use up the whole roll of the teflon tape that came with this shower head (and had to go out and buy a whole new roll of teflon tape), retighten multiple times (it kept leaking, despite the teflon tape and the careful use of a wrench and new washers), and the shower head still leaks (in contrast, the installation for the 2-in-1 took less than 15 minutes, required only simple hand tightening--no tape required--and doesn't leak at all! ).
Results: The shower pressure is good, but the shower head still leaks at the diverter to shower arm connection (despite a relatively new shower arm, a double layer of carefully applied teflon tape, and a new washer--so much for conserving water with this product). For ease of installation and no leaks, I recommend the 2-in-1 Chrome Peerless shower head over this one (4-Spray), especially since the price differential is minimal between the two.
Customer Review: Great product for the price Summary: 4 Stars
I'm not aware of any other double headed shower you can get for the price of this one on Amazon. Our old shower head was cheaply made, with plastic as the connectors. Eventually they failed and we had to replace it, and decided on the Peerless Hand Shower and Shower Head Combo.
All the connectors and hose seem to be relatively heavy-duty, keeping in mind the price point. Instillation was very easy, but you do need a wrench, not just hand-tighten. They supply a small amount of Teflon tape, but you may want to have more on hand. There weren't any leaks after installing (don't forget to put in the supplied washers/gaskets), and it continues to perform well after a month.
The water flow if fine with both heads on. We've found it really useful when I'm showering with my young son. He can have his own shower head directed at him.
The valve allows you to have one shower head on at a time, both or none. Plus each head has a couple different spray pattern options. You don't get the myriad of massage patterns that are available on more expensive shower heads, but I never found much use for those anyway. I just want to get wet and clean effeciently!
Overall a very good buy and looks luxurious and something different in your shower.
