Tools and Hardware Reviews of Peerless 76950 2-in-1 Shower System, Chrome

Customer Review: Euphoric after-shower induced review
Summary: 4 Stars

When our Pollenex showerhead kicked the bucket, my husband and I decided to get a replacement that would make up for all of its shortcomings. Plus, we had a few general requirements that needed to be kept.

#1 Good water pressure - Our water pressure is OK, but our showerhead needs to make the most of it. Peerless does better than our Pollenex ever did.

#2 Two shower heads in one for handheld use for close up spray - The Peerless model actually has the handheld part as an insert to the other "main" showerhead so that when you need to use it for a specific part of your body you can, and when you don't it's improving your overall shower experience. Our previous Pollenex had separate showerheads (and no place to place the other one so we ended up using the tower holder).

#3 Wide spray - With our previous showerhead, I had to move either the showerhead around or myself to get adequate coverage. It sort of makes showers an awkward dance routine. I LOVE the wide arc of the "main" showerhead for almost total coverage.

#4 Massaging shower - I didn't realize this when I got it, but I am so glad that this is a feature. 2 out of the 4 settings of the handheld showerhead create a massage effect. When used with the main showerhead it simulates actual rainfall and the change in pressure feels very nice. Used against my shoulders and back with the handheld was heaven especially since my muscles have been tense lately. Just WOW.

#5 Long hose - I really like the length of the hose. Not only can I get from mostly head-to-toe, but it's also helpful for cleaning up the shower area and curtain.

#6 Fully maneuverable showerhead - The range of motion on the main showerhead is very nice and surprising. My husband is about 1/2 a foot taller than me so he and I can both be happy and set the showerhead to our liking.

#7 Easy-to-grip method for changing showerhead "source" and changing handheld showerhead settings - My Pollenex had this sort of turn-y dial which was difficult to use when your hand was wet which is very common when you're *cough* showering. I specifically bought this model since there seemed to be a grip to turn both of these easily. Plus there is a nice little clicking noise to know when you've got it right.

#8 Lifetime Warranty -Doesn't work like it did today? Well, I'm glad to know that I would be able to get it fixed / replaced. It's just good for my piece of mind.

In my euphoric after-shower state (the showerheads just arrived this afternoon and I had to try it out) I might have forgotten something. Some caveats (Yes, there are a few! I cannot be bought by nice, massaging, warm showers... mmm...) are that the grip to select which shower head to direct the water to (main, handheld, or both) doesn't seem to work correctly. If we try to direct the water to either the main or handheld it sort of goes slightly flat. Thankfully, it works super effectively when we select both the main and handheld setting which is what we wanted it for anyway.

Some people might be put off by the plastic but for the price it's worth it. Honestly, my husband couldn't tell the difference when it came in from the cold. Also, for shorter people, it may be difficult to get used to inserting the handheld showerhead into the "main" showerhead. I know I've had a little trouble at first, but that might go away with further use. In addition, the main showerhead does not have any different settings - my Pollenex showerheads both could have their settings changed. I'm not sure about buildup removal, but in other posts, reviewers have said that it's easy to clean. I certainly hope so, so right now I'll just have to take their word for it and plus, there's always that lifetime warranty.

Customer Review: Peerless Indeed! Best Head I've ever got!
Summary: 5 Stars

NOTE: I've added some pictures to aid in my review of this wonderful device.

Awesome shower head that is night and day difference over anything else I've used. During the holidays we got a cheaper detachable hand shower head that didn't fit well into our shower space (those types tend to sit high above the tub and have a flat, narrow angle, spray). Anyway, after some research we decided to replace that with this Peerless two in one since it seems like a logical progression from both the regular heads and detachable handheld heads. Installion was easy, but the washers which came with our kit was the stiff plastic types that allowed leakage and reduce water pressure. Luckily we had the sturdy soft-rubber washers at hand to use with this head. Also our kit came short one washer (only 2, instead of 3) and I wasn't sure if the idea was to not use washers on the 3 joints, but you NEED washers on all the joints or the pressure will be less and the joints without washers will leak.

That said, once the head was up and running I was very pleased with the pressure and especially the wide flow angle of the main shower head. The center hand head has all the luxury options for pulse, massage and criss-cross spray which was a coveted feauture lacked on our previous head. My one gripe was the plastic hose. Out the box it was stiff, coiled up and stubborn to hang down. After a steady flow of hot water thru it the plastic softened up and it eventually broke-in and hung nicely from the head (see pictures).
I would've prefer a chrome-metallic vertebrae-style coil (similar to the ones you see on public telephones), since the plastic tends to mildew easier than a chrome-metallic coil. Many cheaper hand held heads come with chrome-metallic coils so I'm not sure why Peerless would opt for an even cheaper plastic coil. That said, it is not a bad coil. The plastic is very durable and high grade, but it still is plastic. Also you can easily replace the plastic hose with a metallic coil.

Overall this was a great choice for the shower. A+

PROS:
- Easy Installation
- Extraodinary creative and appropriate design
- Well engineered to provide even water flow and presure
- Sturdy Chrome-Metallic parts are durable as well as good quality plastic parts
- Wide Angle Spray/Multi Spray Adjust Head is second to none
- Massage spray = nice!
- Equally great water pressure on both hand-held head and the main head (see pictures)
- Very adjustable. Head base uses a 360 degree swivel joint

CONS:
- Kit comes with cheap plastic-like washers, get rubber ones and you'll get better water pressure, no leaks and be happier.
-Plastic hose should've been metallic chrome but that is my personal gripe as the plastic hose is still very good.
- Those with shower caddies that hang from the shower head pipe may need to relocate these caddies or buy new ones that suction to the wall. The handle of the hand held part and the hose may possibly obstruct any caddies that hang there.
- Those with tiny shower enclosures or very narrow tubs (less than 2 feet) may get spill overs as the spray angle of this head is wider than most normal shower heads.

Customer Review: Ahhhh,,,truly the best shower I have ever had... and night after night....
Summary: 5 Stars

So all the positive reviews you read are sooo justified... You just cannot believe that it is possible to experience such a pleasurable shower. The fullness and width of the spray when the head is locked in place with the circle of spray around just gives an exquisite experience.

Since so many reviewers have written glowing reports -- I will address some of the negative complaints.

1. It does NOT leak. The reviewers who say it does have either lost or failed to put in one or more of the 3 washers that come with it. The washers are tiny, easy to not see, easy not to recognize as washers. Even one of the reviewers complaining about leaks said they put in the *two* washers. There are not two -- there are 3. The instructions even point this out carefully -- but those may have been modified for emphasis due to the complaints that clearly arose because of improper installment.
The washers, as tiny as they are -- if you look closely, you can see that one side is very slightly rounded on the edges while the other side is completely flat. I put the completely flat side in first and screw the part in tight onto the rounded side.

2 The wide and large number of sprays do NOT cause the pressure to drop. I can't recall if there was a water regulator in the unit -- but if there was I took it out. A lot of people have poor water pressure. That is their problem. A lot of people have a water regulator built somewhere into their system as was required by law in some jurisdictions and just done automatically for water conservation reasons. you've got to take that out. You probably already have low pressure because of this.

3. It does NOT spray in your face. the showerhead is at the same level as a regular showerhead. What is true is that in recent years brand like WaterPik have redesigned their spray heads to attach at the base of the handle instead of at the neck the way they use to. I can't use that design in my shower stall -- the water would just hit high on the wall and never hit me. I've been nurturing my 25 year old WaterPik because of this in convenient design. It isn't bad if you are in a tub and can stand back far enough -- but in a shower stall -- it is impossible to use. So if you are having problems with the Peerless spraying directly in your face you either 1,have an unusually low shower head installation, 2. you are really REALLY tall or 3 you haven;t figured out how to twist and adjust the Peerless -- as easy as it is to do.

So get this shower head. You will not be unhappy. I am about to give one as a housewarming gift, my neighbor was so envious of mine.

Customer Review: Futuristic shower!
Summary: 4 Stars

I researched a long time on shower heads. I live in an apartment with a fixed shower extension, dealing with hard water (fixed that installing a chlorine remover CULLIGAN), and now I have another space issue with the shower pipe. The shower filter makes the space to add a shower head a little more difficult.

This shower head does adjust in certain ways to help with the space problem as long as you grab the shower head part and not the handheld to make the adjustments....a bit frustrating.

I picked this showerhead for the 2 in 1, mostly for a short (5'3") person and washing and coloring my long hair. Other showerheads made it next to impossible to get all the shampoo, conditioner and color out of the hair. Then being in an apartment with a low water pressure did not help. THIS showerhead, although mostly plastic and a bit flimsy, was easy to install but leaks in 2 places: where the showerhead attaches to the showerpipe, or in my case, the shower filter. I tried without filter to see if it was the filter that made it leak. NOPE.
2nd place it leaks is when you use only the handheld device. The showerhead still leaks water even though you supposedly switched it to only the handheld.

The settings are great and even though where the hand held slips into the showerhead is not securely tight, I don't have a problem with it slipping out yet, still new.

The problem with the hose hanging down and getting in the way was solved by twisting the diverter to have the hose come out from the right side towards the wall, thereby giving room to have a showercaddy, which I also have, and so far the hose has not interferred.

Apart from the pieces being plastic, tightening the attached pieces with a wrench too tight might crack the plastic.

I did notice a review here that suggested making an adjustment with a screwdriver inside the diverter piece that attaches to the shower pipe to see if THAT leaking part stops.

The water pressure increased greatly with this product, and washing my hair is not an ordeal either because both shower pieces cover not only the whole body but also rinses out everything in my long hair. My hair actually felt clean!

I had one of those CASCADING RAIN SHOWER HEADS previously and this product is a great improvement.

Except for being mostly plastic and the leaking problems and, of course, the handheld not secured enough, I am happy with the product.

Customer Review: Not bad, not great
Summary: 3 Stars

My experience with this showerhead has not been as great as others, though not terrible either.

First, I did have some leakage problems. My package came with 3 black, soft rubber washers like it is supposed to. However, I was still getting leakage where the showerhead screws onto the shower arm (yes, I used Teflon tape). After some frustration and wasted time, I finally got it installed leak-free.

I think the trick was to screw it on tight, but not too tight. Mine stopped leaking when I put it on as tight as I could using a wrench with only my hand strength, without using my body weight for extra torque. Putting it on too tight seemed to deform the washer and cause leaking. I've changed a few showerheads in my day, and I've never had one this touchy.

As for the performance of this shower head, you should note that the handheld shower head has the exact same 4 options as most common 4-spray Delta heads. Don't get me wrong...the Delta 4-spray is a pretty good showerhead. But maybe I was a little less impressed with the Peerless than other reviewers because I have had a handheld 4-spray Delta in my other shower for awhile, making the Peerless not seem very new and exciting to me.

Now, this Peerless adds the additional, stationary shower head to what the Delta offers. However, the stationary head doesn't do very much for me. Using the stationary shower head gives good spread, but is very "soft" feeling. While it does nicely spread warm water over your body, personally I am most interested in a high pressure spray that really rinses out the shampoo and soap. I even removed the green flow limiter (that limits flow to 2.5 gallon/min) from the stationary shower head and the flow still feels too soft for my liking. This includes when just the stationary head is activated and when both heads are activated (when both are activated, the handheld pressure weakens). I guess the spray from the stationary head just isn't my style, but others do seem to like it.

So, it looks like I will be using the handheld-only option, which is the exact same experience as using the less-expensive Delta in my other shower. But, I guess it's not bad to have the other options available...perhaps my wife will decide she likes to use the stationary head. Also, I can't complain too much since the Peerless was only $30 (I believe the Delta was $20 - not a big difference).
