Tools and Hardware Reviews of Peerless 76950 2-in-1 Shower System, Chrome

Customer Review: Useful for what it is
Summary: 4 Stars

Are you looking for a hand-held shower for your new glass tile shower with 24 nozzles and simulated tropical rain? Keep looking, because this would look pretty odd in an upscale shower.

It is, though, fine for the normal, not totally fabulous shower. In my main bath I used the nicer Delta reviewed previously, but one problem I had with that unit was its large size. Our second shower, a stall type, is small and I thought the Peerless looked smaller and its price was more in keeping with the location.

Unfortunately, this Peerless is quite big and intrudes into a small shower area more than desired. I have the shortest shower arm I could find, and it just takes up too much room in a crowded shower. Actually, a short person, or one who sits in a shower, might like the fact that the shower can be swiveled down closer to the floor.

The hose is standard plastic, but after some hot water goes through it the hose becomes manageable and it loops around my shower caddy just fine. Not the problem I thought it might be. It is long enough to clean a smaller shower, but in a huge one you might want another unit or add a longer hose.

The good part is that it does have a built-in swivel so you can point it in any direction and so even though I am tall and the stall is small, it actually works ok for me if it is swiveled up and to the side. It just looks kind of strange that way. The diverter valve is handy and easy to use with soapy hands. Note that the hand-held portion does not snap in and out; you have to slide it up and out, and that is not as nice as it could be.

On the other hand, the controls for different shower patterns work easily, even under pressure, the first nozzle of any sort I have ever owned that was actually possible for the unstrong to use. Unfortunately, the pulse settings are not that exciting, not that much different from steady settings.

The system adheres to the 2.5 gallon standard, but there is no problem with the flow at my house (60 lbs pressure). I do not feel the need to circumvent the flow limiting feature. This is nice.

So, what you get is a strangely styled, chromed-plastic kind of big and intrusive shower device that actually works pretty well and doesn't cost too much. It is perfect for many locations and I think many people appreciate the utility of hand-held showers.

Customer Review: It's like getting more than you paid for.
Summary: 4 Stars

My trusty Waterpik shower head has traveled with me from apartment, to duplex, to my house. And at about 11 years old, the connector started leaking and the head itself was looking rather hit, so it was time to replace it.

My first thought was to buy another Waterpik, but at nearly twice the price, I decided to give the Peerless a shot. Thanks in no small part to the reviews here (and video!) I will say, I was hesitant about the removable head not having as many settings as my Waterpik. It wasn't until I had this installed that I was sure I had a keeper.

It's a shower head, so you don't need to be a plumber to install it. Have an adjustable wrench ? You're good to go. Have some teflon tape? Even better! The instructions were straightforward, and the project took all of about five minutes to complete.

Once I turned it on, I was really surprised by the amount of water flow. Set to "both", this thing will drench you! Removing the head and replacing it is really easy and can be accomplished without blocking the nozzles and spraying water all over the place. Initially, I thought my reservations had been justified with the few settings on the removable head, but being able to have the fixed shower head going while using the removable head is so great, I don't care that it only has four settings. That pretty much sealed the deal right there.

"Why only four stars, then?" you ask? The overall design can really be improved. You have chrome going to brown plastic, back to chrome, back to brown plastic, and turquoise nozzles. I love the 80's as much as anyone, but I'm not all excited about stepping back in time when I take a shower. I didn't think it would bother me much when I bought it, but it really is kind of atrocious after having used it for about a month.

I like the shower head too much to replace it, but if Peerless came out with an all-chrome model, I'd buy it in a heartbeat and give this to a friend. As long as you don't mind (or can live with) the way it looks, this is an awesome value.

Customer Review: This has been working out well for us so far
Summary: 4 Stars

We have been using this product for about 3 months now, and here's what I have to say.

Firstly, we only have a shower stall, no tub, so cleaning it is a royal pain and a hand held feature is essential (for rinsing off walls & doors). Secondly, our stall isn't that big so it was important to us to have a shower head that pivoted up or down in order to adjust the spray direction. The product we tried out prior to purchasing this merely hit the back wall of the shower and couldn't be adjusted at all. Thirdly, we needed something that would work with a shower caddy. To accomplish this, we have the hose pointing to the right, rather than coming straight down as it is shown in the picture. And just a side note, we also bought a new, adjustable shower caddy, which cost more than the shower head..lol, but I was determined to have both! Lastly, we wanted something relatively inexpensive since we consider this a temporary measure until we can completely gut our bathroom. For us, this Peerless fit the bill all around.

Installation was a breeze, and we haven't had any leakage issues. This shower head sits low once mounted (we are 5'5" and 5'8", so it's not an issues for us), so if you're on the tall side, you might want to rethink this model, as it could pose a problem. The hand held hose is rather short and could have used another foot in my opinion, but I think that could be remedied easily. This is mostly plastic and a little cheesy, but for the price, we were able to overlook that. Pressure is okay, but we don't have the best water pressure to begin with, so it probably has little to do with the unit itself. When showering, we use the combined setting which allows water flow from both the hand held and the outer ring, although for me, the pressure from the outer ring is weak. Removing and returning the hand held piece into position is relatively painless once you get the hang of it, and overall, this has been working out well for us, and we're happy. Had it not been for the "cheesiness" factor (chrome is merely shiny plastic), I probably would have given it 5 stars, but nevertheless, it's still a great value!

Customer Review: you get what you pay for

Update:

After several weeks of ownership, this shower head is giving me nothing but frustration.
It leaks like crazy where the head screws into the supply line. I've tightened it a lot, but this just leads to the washer being smashed and it leaks anyways. I've tightened it much less, but this just means it's too lose and any time you swivel the head, the whole unit comes lose. The ball swivel is very stiff if screwed in all the way, so that moving the head itself tends to move the entire installation and just makes it come lose and leak. This has happened nearly every time. It will be fine for a day or two, and then after adjusting the head right or left a couple times or pulling the detachable head on or off, it begins leaking again.

I've read the post about tightening some inner portion with a screwdriver so I'll give that a try, but I'm honestly thinking of just RMA'ing this piece of crap.

Only had this for a short time now so I hope it doesn't break down the road but so far it's been fantastic.
Vastly improved the water pressure over my old (apartment default) Kholer standard showerhead.

For the price (very cheap!) this is a great 2-in-one showerhead solution. The different spray types aren't all that varied, but for this price I didn't expect much.

The instructions are a bit minimal. Be careful when installing this, I recommend only using your hands to tighten the parts together. I used a wrench to do it initially and ended up over-tightening it. As a result one of the rubber washers got lodged up inside the shower spout and caused the showerhead to leak. After opening it up and putting the washer back in the proper place and only tightening it with my hands, it works fine.

Other than that, installation was pretty easy and took about 20 minutes or so. I recommend getting some Teflon tape (to wrap around the fixtures before screwing them together) as well as it does not come in the package.

Customer Review: Definitely a 5 start product, but not perfect
Summary: 4 Stars

Did LOOOOONG research in lots of different showerheads, and read MANY MANY reviews before purchasing this product. I am extremely pleased with this product compared to more expensive ones and essentially do less. I highly recommend this products to anyone, and especially couples who like showing together since one of you will never be left cold and dry at times. Easy to install, no tools needed for install.

PROS:

Great showerhead! Every part of your body will be pelted with water. Very wide spray, great to share the spray with another.

Fixes problems with water pressure; my shower faucet is like a fire hose stripping away my skin with any showerhead, now no matter how high I turn up the water, it will never pass the point of fire hose power.

Fixes problems with water temperature; mixes the hot and cold water better so it'll never be too hot or too cold, unlike my last showerhead.

Four different settings with click turn switch, no guess work needed to get in the right position.

CONS:

You will take showers loooooonger since this showerhead will feel soo good!

Looks like a spaceship in your shower, not very aesthetically pleasing.

Pulsating message setting not the strongest I've had, but not terribly weak either.

Sometimes difficult to place the shower head back into the holder, if the plastic showerhead holder breaks, you're screwed.

Plastic hose with lots of memory, need to stretch it out before installing so it will remain dangling down.

Not perfect, showerhead will drip in certain position, but barely noticeable, this is the only con keeping me from giving this product a 5 since 5 means perfection in my book.
