Tools and Hardware Reviews of Peerless 76950 2-in-1 Shower System, Chrome

Customer Review: Unbelievable value
Summary: 5 Stars

I went in search of a shower head prepared to spends upwards of $75. I assumed that's what I'd have to pay to get a decent one that was good enough, but not great. I saw the glowing reviews on this one, so I gave it a try. I was wrong. This shower head is GREAT at an obviously much better price point. The user-submitted pictures of the streams crossing is what made me decide to buy this, and I must say, the spray is wonderful! If you want to walk in your shower and be completely covered by the stream, this is the shower head for you.

I leave it on the setting that makes the water come out of both parts of the shower head: hand-held, and stationary. The stream coming out of the stationary part isn't impressive, but its looks are deceiving. I have extraordinarily long, thick hair (thank goodness for drain snakes) and it saturates it without the hand-held quite nicely. The power from the hand-held isn't as great as I've had before, but it still manages to relax tight muscles well.

As you can see from the pictures, it protrudes from the wall quite a bit. I underestimated this and was surprised and disappointed, but it turned out to be fine. Just be prepared to see it stick out that far.

The only real complaint I have about this shower system is that it's spray is wider than my shower! The townhouse I lease has a typical shower installation with sliding glass doors, but the spray hits the doors and the tile. It's only a problem because it makes me long for a better/bigger shower!

I don't think most people will be disappointed with this shower head - especially for the cost.

Customer Review: Frustrating; numerous design flaws
Summary: 1 Stars

This showerhead sprays water everywhere except on you. The main head is shaped like a horse-shoe and sprays water in a gentle manner, but most of it ends up on the shower curtain or wall because the water arcs outward. The detachable head is the inner element, and ALL of its different settings are abrasive and not comfortable in the least. The water spray feels like death by a thousand paper cuts, making it uncomfortable to use when it is attached and especially when it is detached.

When I adjust the head, because of the wide spray arc and my lack of height, I have to turn off the showerhead or get a blast of water in my eyes. This was not a problem with my old showerhead, also made by Peerless, which also had a larger, more easily accessible lever to adjust where the spray is coming from.

Perhaps the biggest design flaw is the detachable showerhead's method of attachment. It nests in the horseshoe and is more prone to falling out than other detachable showerheads I've used that have a big metal "hook" to stick it back into. And as you try to put the detachable head back in, more often than not, the upper element, slips around to the side, further complicating matters. Lastly, the lever for adjusting the spray of the detachable head is along the side of the spray element. You have to either detach the head and reattach it or shut off the shower to adjust this unless you want more water spraying everywhere.

Also, it doesn't come with enough washers, so we had to use the ones from our old showerhead. And as others mentioned, it's prone to leaking unless you tighten it.

Customer Review: Great, if it works with your shower
Summary: 4 Stars

I ordered this when my old Shower Massage finally started leaking like a sieve. I've never used any Peerless shower products, but I was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to install and how clear the instructions were. The spray pattern is nice and has good pressure, and the handheld spray nozzle is easy to use and adjust.

A couple of cautions. First, make sure that this will work with your height and your shower. Figure that the bottom of the shower head will hang about five or six inches lower than a typical shower head would hang when attached to the same shower. If you're tall and your shower head is low, that may be a problem. If you're in this situation, you should look at a more traditional shower massager, like the Waterpik SM-453CG Original 4-Mode Massage Handheld Shower, Chrome/Crystal , that only use a handheld sprayer (without the fixed shower head that this Peerless also has); the clip on these traditional shower massagers allows the sprayer to be positioned higher in the shower.

Second, since this uses plastic threads in some places, be careful about overtightening. You're going to want to use some thread sealant tape, like the Stanley-Bostitch Thread Sealant Tape THREADTAPE. It fills in the gaps between the threads, allowing you to get a nice tight waterproof seal without having to overtighten the connections and risk stripping the threads.

Customer Review: So very disapointed
Summary: 1 Stars

I saw all the great reviews for this shower head, so I bought it, and I couldn't be more disappointed. Luckily Amazon has great customer service policies and allowed me to return it, even with cut open bubble packaging.

Here are the negatives I found:

1. It is very low. Because of the the switch valve and the shower head, this shower head was only about 5 feet off the ground if pointed down. I had to point it straight at the wall which made the top about 5'5", and I still had to bind my knees to get the top of my head wet, and I am not a tall person.

2. If you use the inner and outer heads at the same time, the water pressure is VERY low. I live in a house with great water pressure, and when set to both, I got a very soft output.

3. Maybe I misunderstood, but it says the hand held inner head has 4-spray. I took that to mean 4 options. It only has 2: Massage and cross spray. The massage is soft, but can be fairly adequate if used alone. The cross spray is very soft and has such a wide spray it seems to get the wall and shower curtain wetter than I get.

4. Because this shower head is so low, and the bulk of the hose, it made the faucet side of my shower feel very crowded. I had to duck to get into the shower.

5.After using this head 4 or 5 times, the connections loosened and water started spraying out of all of them. I used Teflon tape, and everything was secure for the first several uses, but I suppose the weight and water pressure loosened everything.

Customer Review: great shower head for the price!
Summary: 4 Stars

Works great and has good water pressure. My 4'11'' girlfriend installed this by herself with just a regular channel lock in less than 5 minutes. It took us longer to find the pliers, actually. Works great for two people. One person can use the handheld while the other uses the stationary head piece if you have the space as the hose is long enough.

Also great for grooming pets! My girlfriend just bathed both of our cats.It took 5 minutes for our more calm cat and 10 minutes for our incredibly difficult cat because he likes to run around and try to escape. It makes rinsing pets very easy because there's just the perfect amount of pressure when you switch to the handheld only option.Cats can't stand regular showers and bathing takes forever, so they get difficult. This was a great alternative as the pressure was able to rinse through the thick fur without making them uncomfortable. For bathing pets, it's easiest to keep them on one half of a shower though aiming at the other end of the shower is still possible given the water pressure. One cat actually seemed to like the narrow stream on the handheld.

Love the three options for the head/handheld shower pieces. You can have both on, just the handheld or just the shower head. There are four spray patterns: A crossing shower stream and a more narrow and concentrated shower stream(like on vegetable rinsing faucets or hair salons), and then a massage (pulsing) version of each of those two.Hose is a decent length, not too long and not too short.
