Tools and Hardware Reviews of Peerless 76950 2-in-1 Shower System, ChromeCustomer Review: Lasted two years, not bad Summary: 4 Stars
Here is a rare review at the end of life for a product. Had it two years. Overall, we were pretty pleased. It does seem to use a lot of water even when using only the center sprayer. The original install was tricky - took me hours to stop the leaks. Over time, the tilt of the showerhead keeps loosening and you have to tighten it by hand at the top almost daily. Easy to do by hand, so not too big a deal. We have a lot of minerals in our water and after two years it was pretty gunked up. There is no way to open it up to clean it which really affected performance after about a year. For the past year or so, many of the adjustable settings haven't worked well due to the mineral build up, but we have been fine with the direct setting. In the end what killed it was that the plastic screw part that attaches the hose to the showerhead developed a small crack and started to spray water everywhere. I fiddled with it a bit and it cracked more. This is after two years, so not too bad. You have to think that metal fittings and some way to clean it out would let it last forever. We purchased a waterpik model to replace this and we will see how it compares. Will adjust review when we have some experience with it. *** update - after using the waterpik model, my wife wishes she had this one. In hindsight, we would buy this again!
Customer Review: Excellent Product! Summary: 5 Stars
As one reviewer here put it, all the good reviews for this product don't lie!
I bought this to replace an old Waterpik Shower Massage. Decided not to replace with a new Waterpik because the reviews indicated the newer ones were not as good. The reviews for the Peerless were outstandingly positive, so I ordered it. It's great - better build quality than the old Waterpik Shower Massage it replaced.
NOTE: I ordered the Peerless 76950 even though Amazon had a product flag stating there was a newer model. Why? Because of the great customer video posted for this model. My shower stall has an off-center pipe and head installation, so I needed to make sure the Peerless swivel ball connector had enough range of movement. The customer video showed it did. The Peerless installed actually has a better range of movement than the old Waterpik it replaced. While the "newer" Peerless may have this as well, there was no mention of it in the product description. From long experience I've found "new, improved" sometimes means "we lowered the quality" rather than any real improvement - the Waterpik Shower Massage, for example. The newer Peerless may indeed be better, but I went with the reviews and the customer video which was for the older model. I'm glad I did.
Great product at a reasonable price.
Customer Review: Unbelieveable design Summary: 5 Stars
I found this product on amazon.com, and had to replace a dual shower head that was mostly made of plastic and snapped off at the base. I was kind of skeptical at first, as I figure that you get what you pay for as the price was very good, and hard to beat for this type of product. I was very pleased when I received this item. It took less than 10 minutes to set everything up, and that is including unpacking the item from the box. One thing to make sure of is that you attach the device it is nice and secure, or it will start leaking or gushing out if not securely attached. The attachment in the middle is handy especially since I have a shower caddy that makes it very tough to have a 2 in 1 shower system without having to move the caddy. The amount of spray is excellent, and there are many settings on the hand held shower head.
I have been very happy with this product, and peerless does make some good products. I feel for me, it was definitely a wise purchase, and I hope this review helps out. The only things I can mention is that I would have liked the piece that is attached to the nozzle to be steel rather than plastic, and there is no regulator to switch between the hand held and the overhead spray portion, so both run at the same time, which is not that much of a big deal for me.
Customer Review: FANTASTIC!!! Summary: 5 Stars
Add me to the list of completely satisfied customers. Our old shower heads, Waterpiks, put out low pressure since we have been living in this house. we just assumed it was low water pressure overall (which is actually true). Lately I had been thinking about buying showerheads that you could modify by making a hole in the flow restrictor.
However, first I wanted to see if maybe getting 2.5 gpm showerheads would be enough. And man, it was. This is night and day.
Installation was easy. all you need is a wrench or big pliers to tighten three threaded parts. Buy some teflon tape to make the joints more waterproof (although I think the utility of this is debatable... but then again teflon tape is like $5).
On my second showerhead installation, I ran across the "leak" problem that others have described. The solution delineated in a front page review about tightening something in the three way diverter did not work for me. You need a BIG allen wrench to fit the gold part he's talking about. anyway, all I did was try to turn anything that could be turned in a clockwise direction over and over again. Seemed to do the trick.
The flow is perfect. It increased a REALLY weak shower flow into something very very good.
Customer Review: Good But Not The Best Summary: 3 Stars
I had to buy a new showerhead and I did tons of research. Nothing makes me more upset when, despite all my detective work, I buy something that lets me down. This showerhead was not a let-down but it was not the miracle of modern science that everyone claimed it to be.
Changing from one spray to another is annoying since you have to put your hand in the stream. Also, it does not CATCH as you switch from one setting to another. There's kind of a gentle bump to let you know that you should stop turning the dial. This is annoying and often I am in-between settings.
Turning on the outer shower ring lowers the pressure on the inner handheld. This makes sense but it almost defeats the purpose.
The pros are, it's a good shower, good pressure (that's why I bought it, to replace a showerhead I had with sucky pressure). Looks nice. Good length on the hose.
Overall, three out of five. Better than average but not great or the best ever. Next time I will buy a well-ranked handheld without the other ring. This will prevent the pressure from going down when I turn it on, and the spray dial will be outside of the showerhead so I won't have to stick my hand in the shower stream and fight the current to change the setting.
