I use these for the range - they work just fine with .45 / 1911 and 7.62 rifle. Human speech can still be easily recognized. Wasn't much help against M4 but that one is a special case and although I haven't tried it yet, I'm pretty sure that adding some ear plugs would solve that issue. We have 22 dogs in our neighborhood within a three house radius --- need I say more? These have helped me keep my sanity when I have work outside. I just tuck in my music Ipod earbuds and pop these on over the top and (hooray) it blocks out most of the barking. Wish I'd thought of this earlier.Customer Review: Excellent hearing protection

This product is an excellent hearing protector. I have used it while firing everything from a .22 to a .357 and 35 Remington. It works. Will also block out snoring, but is a little uncomfortable to sleep while wearing them except on your back. Lightweight and affordable are also key factors.Customer Review: Worth the Price

I bought 2x back in 2008. Bought 2x more in 2010 for friends. Great for the range. Not quiet 5 stars, but well worth the price. If you're looking for ear protection at the range this is it. The Peltor Ultimate 10 Hearing Protector works great with both shotgun and 9mm handgun. You can hear someone talking to you, yet it blocks out substantial noise from the guns. I tried some other people's protectors and this is definitely better. Your hearing is worth the money spent.
