Tools and Hardware Reviews of Peltor 97079 Combat Arms Earplugs

Customer Review: Excellent for Convertibles
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased these for firearms use, but haven't had a chance to go shooting yet.

If you've read the description, you know that the green side is a standard earplug, while the yellow side is supposed to block only the gunshot, allowing you to hear speech, range commands, etc.

It was warm enough to open the windows on the Jeep today, and these worked GREAT at killing the wind noise. I usually put in regular earplugs and turn the radio up a few clicks. These were very effective at blocking the wind noise, but easily passed music and speech. I was able to turn the radio DOWN. I was even able to use my bluetooth earpiece with them in place!

I can't wait to get out to the range!

Customer Review: Good but not great
Summary: 3 Stars

I was looking for something that would allow me to hear voices, but block gunfire. I can say that the earplugs did deliver as far as that is concerned, but they were somewhat cumbersome. They stick way out of your ear. You have to choose either the yellow or brown end when deciding if you want total sound blockage, or limited sound blockage. Because choosing one end means leaving the other hanging out of your ear, I felt they were too likely to be dislodged if I was going through deep brush, or removing a camo mask. Earpro makes a better earplug that allows for regular communication, and blocks harmful noise.

Customer Review: blocks gunfire, while allowing normal sounds to be heard
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought the Combat Arms earplugs after hearing good things about them while at the range. I was happy to find they work as well as everybody said. With the yellow side inserted, I can still hear normal conversation and fairly quiet sounds, but they allow me to shoot my .40 pistol and .308 rifle comfortably. I tried the olive colored side and they seem to offer a little more sound reduction, which may be good for some folks. It's nice to be able to hear range instructions without having to take an earplug out. I was also happy to find they fit into my GI earplug case. Everybody should own a pair of these.

Customer Review: Decent Earplugs
Summary: 4 Stars

Think of them as really good earplugs (gray side) and diet earplugs (yellow side). I just spent 5 hours on the range. The gray side works like normal earplugs; the yellow side lets you hear normal conversation that's a bit muffled. When the shooting starts, the shots aren't as sharp as normal and your ears won't ring, if they're inserted properly. I'm used to a solid earplug, not the Christmas Tree shape that these have. They tickled my ears a bit, but I can get used to them. They'd be perfect if they had a string between them so I could pull them out and let them hang on my hat band when not in use.

Customer Review: Quiet please
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought these for shooting an POF AR-10 .308 cal rifle. If you don't know, these are extremely loud. Also, have used them with my Benelli SBE 12ga.
They work well. I use them under my Winchester ear muffs or my Howard Leigh electronic ear muffs. I still hear the loud bang, but much much reduced.
I plan on buying another set. I feel these work better then the soft ear plugs. The are very comfortable and easy to put in. They stay in place nicely.
I am still looking for the ultimate ear plugs, but they may not exist at a reasonable price.
Recommended.
