Customer Review: PermaLife Filter Not Up to It

I have five Hunter Air Purifiers. Three are the QuietFlo (HEPA filter) models and two are PermaLife models. I love the Hunter QuietFlo air purifier models. They are relatively quiet, even on high speed, and efficiently clean the air.
On the other hand, the PermaLife models are louder, and continue to get louder as the filter ages, and are noticeably less efficient air cleaners even when new. This is likely because, as far as I know, the PermaLife filter is NOT a HEPA filter.
I dated the PermaLife filters when I bought the units containing them. I vacuumed my PermaLife filters at least every time I changed my pre-filters (approximately every 3 months), and sometimes more often. After a year the PermaLife filters had noticeably reduced through-flow; dust began collecting on furniture in those rooms again. In the second year of use the flow through the PermaLife filter became so low that the pre-filters no longer collected any dust and the carpet in front of the units became stained by tobacco smoke and dust that was making it to the unit but not though it.
I am a long time air purifier user so I did not expect miracles from the PermaLife filter, but I did not expect them the effectively shut down after one year of use.
I believe this PermaLife model 30547 is based on the QuietFlo model 30525 as I purchased my model 30525 before I believe the model 30547 was ever available. Also, the body of the model 30547 has molded-in the detents required to accept the 30940 filter used by the model 30525. As such, I was able to convert this model 30547 to accept the same QuietFlo HEPA filter (30940) that is used in my Hunter air purifier model 30525. This QuietFlo HEPA filter is less expensive than the replacement PermaLife filter and now the unit is much quieter and is again an effective air cleaner.
