Headlamps come in many shapes and forms. The Tikka XP is a bright, light weight headlamp. I like the feature of having a diffuser that slides over the spotlight. If you can find them, purchase the colored diffusers. I replaced the clear one that came with the Tikka XP, with a red diffuser. This is a great feature at night as it allows you to see your surrounding clearly, without significantly impacting your night vision.
Please note: if you intend on using this with a bike, do not use the red diffuser, because the light is limited to about 10 feet.

I've been wanting a light like this for awhile and finally took the plunge. The Petzl has several different models, but this one looked like the best combination of features and price.
It's been used many times and works great. Not a high penetration beam, but the LED has a blue light which seems more white than the standard tungsten lights. The headlight is very useful for jobs that require your hands free. I use it to clean my sensor on my digital camera and photography shots at night. Reading is very convenient with this type of light too!!

I install satellite systems and wanted a quality headlamp for the crawl spaces. I was pretty impressed with its brightness and construction. I'd buy 2 more but the cost is significant although well worth it for one if you are going to use it on a regular bases, which you will if you have it. I don't want to purchase 3 of them so I just carry it with me. i use it when installing appliances instead of carrying a flashlight. Flashlights take one of your hands and are usually larger. This fits in a small cell phone pocket on my tool pouch.Customer Review: These things are so freakin awesome

Got 4 of them, 2 in the autos, one in the tool chest, and one just laying around.
What I like about this model is the tilting head beam that stays locked. LED light just bright enough but not blinding, great battery life.
I use them for everything. Taking out the garbage at night, walking or jogging, changing the oil filter, working on electronics, power outage, attic.
Comfortable and light to wear, adjustable light power with a stobe option.
And you are nuts to go camping without these, you can even signal w/ them.

This headlamp hangs around a statue of Buddha by my front door, reminding me to don it when I take the garbage out at night down my dark, long, earthen driveway to the road below. Snakes, tarantulas, scorpions and larger creatures are out and about at night, so it is essential to see where one is stepping! This headlamp lights my way. I also like to use it coming home from any venue where the light is dim and I need to get back to my car. Not traditional uses, but really important ones. I think this would make a thoughtful gift.
