I've been dealing with a constant stiff and sore neck for over half a year now, because my sub-conscience is masochistic, and the 80 dollar luxury pillow I had was... well... crap.
Apparently I have a tendency while sleeping to stick my shoulder under the bottom and squeeze out the pillow from between it and my head. I'd wake up to find my pillow above my head most nights. I tried using a stiff pillow that wouldn't crumple like the luxury pillow, but I apparently compensated by putting my shoulder on TOP of my pillow entirely. That, naturally, lead to my head resting on nothing but my shoulder (at a 90 degree angle) as I lay on my side at night. Painful, very very painful. I couldn't seem to break the habit and no pillow combination was helping the situation at all. Needless to say, I was skeptical a cheap amazon pillow could cure my violent sub-conscience behavior, but desperate neck pain calls for desperate purchases.
I wasn't planning on writing a review until a month in, but the pillow arrived on day 3 from a particularly horrible night (normally lasts 4-5 days before recovering). I took reviewers advice and put it in a normal pillow cover and stored the provided one for an annual sprucing. I tested it out during the day using it while laying my body on a Sumo (micro-bead heaven) and found that my head wasn't fidgeting like it normally does right before I fall asleep. I used it that night and found no issue as well, my head was very well cradled and rested. The next day, all existing pain was gone, which was a pleasant surprise but I didn't look into it too much, could've been a coincidence.
I'm normally a warm person, I seem to run hotter than your average Jane. For instance, I can get warm to the point of sweating sitting on my Sumo for more than a few minutes, so I was worried about the micro-bead pillow suffocating my head... very surprisingly - it did not. My head was cool and cradled and happy. Using it for a little over a week - I'm downright amazed how well this pillow works, I was not expecting results this quickly or consistently. Only at one point did I wake up in the middle of the night and had found my whole body was completely awkwardly positioned. I felt an ache in my neck but it felt more like a bruise than a pinched nerve - it went away after I stretched it out a bit and was completely gone after that.
The luxury pillow got demoted to cushioning my legs at night, at least it was good for something. I'm taking this micro-bead pillow with me on long trips from now on, I'm not sure I can use a regular pillow again.
