Customer Review: Great Pillow to Eliminate Neck and Shoulder Pain

I have had extremely tight shoulders and neck for greater than 20 years. I go through ibuprofen by the thousand. This pillow is a little strange at first but it really worked and allowed my neck muscles to relax. For the first time in my memory; my neck and shoulder muscles do not feel rigid.
As many others have commented; you can't follow the pillow instructions about requiring the pillow to be inside the supplied cover. Do that and it gets way too firm. After 7 months I have had to turn the pillow and now use the larger back side, but it is still to firm with the supplied cover. With the current wear I expect to get about 18 months of use out of the pillow. I will make sure I buy another as a replacement before that time. That is a small price to pay for a lot of pain relief. Also there is a styrene smell when you first get the pillow. The smell goes away in a few days, so just wait those few days before using it.
My only caution is that a smoker should not ever smoke in bed with this pillow. The bead are probably made from polystyrene. If they ever catch fire, the large surface area of the beads would make them burn extremely fast.
I have tried a lot of other pillows and the Real Ease neck support, but none have provided any real benefit.

What a versatile and wonderful pillow. My husband is a horrid snorer and the king of serial killers when it comes to pillows. In trying to find a pillow to curb his snoring problems, we have tried every kind... polyfiber, memory foam, down, feather and gel. We have spent hundreds of dollars on pillows. He pushes, smashes and pounds pillows in his sleep trying to make them fit the way he wants. Most pillows don't last a month with him. No amount of fluffing can restore them to usuable pillows. It was by accident that we found micro-beads. It was in a small toss pillow, but when he used it, we slept better. So, I set out to find a full sized "bean bag" pillow. Leave it to Amazon.com to have it.
I bought 2 for my husband. We put one in the included pillow cover and left one out. The pillow cover provides little room of movement of the beads and makes for a very firm pillow, great for side sleepers. Without the pillow cover it makes for a very squishy pillow, great for back sleepers or a cuddle pillow.
We love these pillows. I say we because once my husband gets up to go to work, I steal his pillows. The neck roll is comfortable. His snoring is almost completely stopped. He sleeps better and I sleep better. I love it so much, I am here to buy myself a set.

I ordered this pillow because I had two throw pillows made the same way that I found myself using for sleeping. They totally conform to the head and readjusts with no noise as you turn. Although the pillow is beautifully made, I am not as happy with the bigger pillow as it is more tightly covered and so it is harder and less pliable, although it does adjust to the head. If you used the lovely cover that comes with it than you completely lose the purpose of the pillow as it no longer pliable when covered. I tried a regular pillow case but it didn't help as it hindered the pillows flexibility. I am now using it uncovered (not very sanitary) and it retains heat...which is uncomfortable and I toss it away during the night. So it's not as useful as the smaller ones which are more loosely covered and softer (they also get warm but I have two of them!). I would probably buy it again as I think sooner or later I'll adjust and there's nothing else out there that I could find either in stores or on the internet, but it's not perfect for what I wanted.
Amazon sent it in record time (next day!) and it was exactly as described and reviewed, I took my chances. Not "officially" unhappy just not delighted!

I've been sleeping on this pillow for about a week, and I really like it. I bought it to replace a Tony Litttle Homedics Mircobead therapy pillow I've been using for several years(it actually lasted longer than I thought). Apparently, the microbeads flatten out, or something, as time goes by, and they tend to get a little squishy with little or no support. This Pike Street pillow is firm and dense, but still has the "give" I was expecting from this type of pillow. As mentioned in other reviews, the initial smell is very chemical, like paint thinner or polish remover, but I just left it outside overnight to air out, and the next day it was fine. In fact, after several days the odor is very faint, and I don't notice it at all with the (included) pillowcase on it. I like the soft velour pillowcase, and in fact, the pillow states right on the tag that it is NOT to be used without the cover on. It's a keeper, although I expect the "shelf live" will be about the same as the Tony Little, but at half the price, that's OK. I highly recommend if you have neck problems, and are a back or side sleeper.Customer Review: pike street micro bead pillow

I ordered this pillow to help me sleep better due to bulging discs in my neck. For me this pillow was too filled with beads making it rather hard. Some reviewers mentioned removing some of the beads, which wasn't possible on my pillow because it had no zipper. It's quite difficult to make the beads stay in any one place....for instance creating an edge for neck support while making a dip in for your head. The beads are so lightweight that they just keep shifting in under your head and don't really conform much at all because the pillow is too stuffed. I tried as several reviewers said to not use the pillow case because that makes the pillow rock hard. However within 2 hours of using the pillow without a case the side seam split and mini beads were everywhere. I had to sew the pillow seam and the mess was difficult to clean up as the beads are mini pieces of styrofoam that is full of static and fly all over the place. So, I'm not very pleased with this pillow. I tried sleeping on it and it won't conform to my neck because it's so stuffed tight that it ended up hurting my neck more.
