Tools and Hardware Reviews of DuroMax XP4400 4,400 Watt 6.5 HP OHV 4-Cycle Gas Powered Portable Generator With Wheel KitCustomer Review: Great Bargain on a Great Generator!! Summary: 5 Stars
Just like me, always preparing for "the end". :)
Anyhow, this is a fantastic generator!! As another reviewer stated, I put gas and oil in and she fired up on the first pull!! Remarkably quiet, runs very smooth, and everything is solid on this unit! Metal gas tank WITH GAUGE, metal gas cap, the 12v DC charge pins are a GREAT addition should you need to charge a battery while running the generator. Plenty of outlets, a V gauge, breaker switch, nice On/Off switch, the wheel/handle kit is a true bonus, and it also came with a free nylon cover for when it's put away it'll look just like new! Even the paint job is nicely done. For the money you can't beat this price, especially the shipping!! Take a look around, you will NOT find a better deal on a generator with these features.
It's worth noting that the system is a 4400watt PEAK load. It will maintain a 3500watt load, and the extra 900w are to handle the occasional surge when, say, a freezer or refrigerator kicks in. The manual has a nice breakdown of typical wattage draws from various home appliances so you can gauge your use accordingly. This will power all at the same time:
- my chest freezer
- my refrigerator
- my TV/Stereo
- 3 Lights
- Radio (boombox)
and there is still room for a few other items.
Great deal overall! I also purchased a "gas station", a 15gallon cylinder with a hose/spigot, to keep on hand for any emergencies which I'd need the gen for.
The seller is easily reached via phone and was very quick to ship my order out, faster than I anticipated!

Update: 02/23/09
I have run this generator for several hours each time my home has had a power failure and it starts up and performs flawlessly. It saved my basement from flooding due to a 6 hour outage during a rainstorm over the summer!
This is an EXCELLENT product for the price.
Someone tried to contact me via email in February and I accidently deleted your note. Please send me another email and I will be glad to answer your questions.
Sincerely,
Jim Nitzberg
I purchased the PowerMax 4400 for emergency use and had it running for 26 flawless hours over the last weekend. This unit has an amazing number of features (other reviews have detailed them) and is very transportable.
I used it to power lights, a coffee maker and radio transmitters, and the unit is very RF quiet (this is important to radio types).
I found that during break-in (the first few hours) the unit burned a bit of oil (to be expected) and once the generator was running for awhile, the fuel economy went way up. The rated run time is 8 hours on a full load and mine ran for 10 hours plus on a light load, with a half tank of gas to spare.
Usually when I see a product that is priced too good to be true - I stay away from it - however in this case, I am extremely surprised by the quality and workmanship of the unit. The engine sounds good (and quiet) while running. Starts easily. I hope to use it periodically for many years.
Customer Review: And she just kept on coming on!! Summary: 5 Stars
15 days without power would have been my destiny had it not been for the PwrMax4400E. Not only was it the quietest generator of all the gen sets running in my cul-de-sac, it lasted the longest time (12 hours @50%load) of all the rest on 4 gallons of fuel. After unpacking, fueling and adding the oil...I turned the key and it was all heaven from then on, I did use the pull crank to make sure it worked and it started on the first pull. She ran 12 hours with a 2-3 hour cooling off period in between shifts. It ran a huge Refridgerator/freezer, a small chest freezer, a 5500 BTU window A/C, several fans,2 lamps,a 31"TV, Boombox, and phone chargers. All without a hiccup. Followed the directions , plugged in the highest wattage first, kept the oil topped off and finally changed it after 15 days of use and it wasnt that dirty. This gen set was awesome and the best money I have ever spent for creature comforts. I would highly recommend this generator to anyone in need and as a matter of fact a couple neighbors did replace their older noisier models for a PowerMax after seeing what mine did. Planning on getting the bigger 10,000 watt surge Powermax for next years' hurricane season and power up right to the house CB box with a switch box.I was amazed and impressed. Loved the fact that it didnt require frequent oil changes as some gen sets do. 5 stars *****
Customer Review: Buyer BEWARE! Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this item Aug. '07 mainly to run on my fifth wheel. Since it's purchase I've used it maybe four times for a total of about 12 hours. On a hunting trip it quit putting out power. After returning from the trip I checked the brushes which appeared to have worn unevenly. I called and ordered a new set ($12.00 w/ shipping). After installing the brushes it seemed to be putting out power. Took it out on a camping trip this fourth of July. At the camp the voltage regulator burned out. Ordered a new regulator ($55.00 w/shipping). Installed the regulator and got no power!
Took it to a shop for diaganosis ($65.00) turns out the stator is bad (tech said it was a piece of junnk!) checked on the price of a new one..$250.00 plus shipping and labor @ $65.00 an hour! These things are pieces of junk made in china with inferior materials. Thought I was getting a good deal (paid $375.00) but got ripped off. Shop around and do your research. These generators are sold under a couple of other brands but with the same inferior material and a very poor guarantee. I know I will be more cautious as I search for a new genertor. STAY AWAY FROM THESE!!
Customer Review: Pathetic..... Do not purchase!!!! Summary: 3 Stars
The unit worked alrite for one weekend of camping. Wanted to use it a couple weeks later and found that the float was cracked. Power Max customer service was horrible. I asked what they would do to correct the situation of a 3 week old faulty unit. They said they could not replace the float I would have to replace the entire carb which they would send me. I explained to the service dept that I needed the generator for a caming trip in 4 days and asked them if they would send it next day mail. They said no.. I would think that a company would stand behind their goods a little better, guess I was wrong. I am expected to wrench on this thing and not be compensated by a next day delivery of the needed part. They know once the unit is purchased via Amazon it cannot be returned to them, its the customers problem.
DO NOT PURCHASE one of these Chinese knock offs of a Honda... You will more than likely regret it as I do. The only saving grace is I may have found a replacement float from guess where...... A Honda dealer..zzz.
Regards..
