Tools and Hardware Reviews of DuroMax XP4400 4,400 Watt 6.5 HP OHV 4-Cycle Gas Powered Portable Generator With Wheel KitCustomer Review: Customer Service Terrible! Summary: 2 Stars
Looked great, but wouldn't start. Customer service was terrible. They said they wouldn't ship a new one unless I paid to ship the defective one back to them. Told me that was their shipping policy and it was posted everywhere (I have not found it anywhere). When I asked to speak to a manager, they sent me to a man who said he didn't have a title, just that he'd been there "forever." He told me there was no one else I could speak with.
Luckily I have a handy neighbor, who spent a good deal of time pulling the generator apart and found the faulty part. Max Tool did ship me a new part at no cost, but refused to expedite the shipping (which takes a week) unless I paid for it. We put in the new part and now the generator works, thankfully.
Bottom line- I was very disappointed with customer service. They said, "if you bought something from Petsmart and needed to return it, Petsmart wouldn't pay for shipping." My reply, "They would have if they had sent me a defective product!" (especially if the product cost $400!!)
Customer Review: Now that I have it, I havent needed it ! :-( Summary: 4 Stars
OK, I took one star off because - 1) I havent had to use it yet... and 2) I really believe a generator needs to come with a generator cord.
And no generator comes with a cord - its not this one alone - but hey I gotta vent somewhere ! :-)
So, after the December the ice storm and associated 4 days of no power, I just had to get me a generator. This one seemed most reasonably priced for the power I was looking for. It also came with a wheel kit, so
Came on time, very well packaged, clear instructions, so all good there. Took <1 hr to open, assemble, fill oil and gas and test. Had to tip the entire generator 45 degrees fill in the oil so maybe the long neck funnel is a good idea after all.
Started on one pull and reasonably quiet as generators go. I've only tested it with a portable electric heater (I still need to wire up my house), but I'm pretty happy with the purchase.
Customer Review: It does not take 1qt. of oil - it takes 0.63qts. Summary: 5 Stars
I just got mine and there is one thing that I want people to know before putting oil in it. There is a little piece of paper that you might pull out and read telling you to put about a quart of oil in before running the generator. DON'T DO IT.
The manual states that the XP4400 takes 0.63 quarts of oil. This is no where near a full quart that is stated on a separate piece of paper included with the generator. I read the little piece of paper and put in about 7/8 of a quart just to end up draining a bunch off.
Otherwise, the generator seems pretty good. I started it right up and it wasn't hard to pull start. The wheel kit makes it easy to move around.
oh yeah, one other thing. It comes with a couple wires with alligator clips on the ends. It took me a minute to figure out that the wires were for the DC output. Makes it easy to connect the DC to a battery.
Customer Review: Generator Summary: 2 Stars
I received the item just a few days before Hurricane Ike - it worked for the first week, and then just stopped working. I am very disappointed that the generator only worked for 1 week and wouldn't work after that. For a brand new generator to work only for 1 week really irritated me cause I was without power for 2 weeks due to Hurricane Ike and have to say the second week was just herrific - so hot and muggy. I even had to sleep in the car one night due to the heat. It was very frustrating and disappointing that a brand new item only worked for 1 week. We believe it is the carborator so I did call and requested a new one and they were quite prompt in sending it to me, so once I replace the carborator, I will give an update, but all in all after 1 week of usuage and having to replace the carborator on a brand new generator just doesn't seem right to me. To sum it up - I'm not that impressed with this item.
Customer Review: Good Product Summary: 5 Stars
We needed this asap for a camping trip and I was able to get it the next day. When we turned it on we didn't know what to compare it to because we never had a generator before. At first we thought it was LOUD and wasn't sure how well it would be in our campsite. We ended up using our friends generator that he paid $2,800 because his was so quite. Everyone said to try our generator out and to see how loud it was. We turned it on and it ended up being almost just as quite as our friends generator. We were so thrilled that we bought something for less and it performed just as well as the expensive one. I would recommend this to everyone. I was lucky enough to not have anything broke like some disputed. The only thing I don't agree with is, if it's broke the customer has to pay for the shipping to return it.
