Tools and Hardware Reviews of Powerwasher PWS1800-U 1,800 psi 1.6 gpm Electric Pressure WasherCustomer Review: Arrived DOA Summary: 2 Stars
Product arrived well packaged. Double boxed and everything seemed fine until I tried to use it. Nothing, NADA, it wouldn't run. I used their on-line chat function and they determined the GFI device was defective. They sent out a replacement. Took a week to gt the part to me and required me performing the repair. Had I purchased this locally I'd have returned it.
Next I set it up and began to use it. Not a lot of power but enoughg for the jobs I needed to do. Seems like it has less power than an old Black Cat 1300 psi model I was replacing but again it was adequate for the task at hand.
Next issue came upon trying to remove the pressure hose when I finished the hob. You need to take off the pressure hose to spool it to the reel for storage. It came off very hard. It actually felt like it was cross-threaded. It certainly went on easily but the tolerances are so poor and metal so thin that it cross-threads upon removal. I lubed the threads with a silicone paste and tried it again. The hose connects easily and I didn't tighten it but finger tight and it again would cross-thread upon removal.
Haven't heard back from their tech support on the remedy but I suspect it will need to go back.
Another thing to watch out for is the hose spool. If you are not very careful you will catch your fingers in the crank. Poor design.
IMHO, this is a model best avoided if you actually want to get any work done. I've now owned the device for a month and it was functional for about 60 minutes. It seems to have less power than advertised and is not well made.
Customer Review: Great washer; Mostly satisfied Summary: 4 Stars
I'm reasonably happy with the performance (and Amazon price) for this machine. It can be very powerful specially if you switch to nozzle mode (which really stings like a needle against the skin!) Even the spray-fan mode is fairly powerful for most jobs. I've used it mainly for cleaning out the driveway that had nasty tire-stains and oil marks, as well as a wooden fence that appeared "new" once cleaned. A word of caution- in the needle-nozzle mode I could carve the wood on my fence. So watch out with the pressure.
My only concern was with the initial setup. This machine has "full auto-off" that means that when you release the trigger on the spray gun, it will power down the motor as well. That's all great once you are up and running, but if you don't realize the mechanics of how this works, you can be frustrated initially. When you start this up for the first time, the pressure in the tubes is low, and so the "auto-off" does not kick in till that pressure is built up (which can take 5 to 10 seconds) During this time (and right after you switch the unit on) the motor runs and builds up the pressure and then switches itself off because you aren't using the spray-gun. This almost makes it appear that you did something wrong since the motor revs up and then shuts down. Once that part is done, whenever you squeeze the trigger the unit will rev up and perform as expected. I wish they had explained this part in the manual.
Customer Review: FAIP Powerwasher performs as advertised Summary: 4 Stars
I've had this powerwasher for several weeks now and have been pleased with its performance. I've used it to clean vinyl siding on the house and clean a large wooden deck. The Powerwasher performed flawlessly. I used the pickup tube to mix a soap with water before rinsing on the deck. The pickup works fine but you need to use it by adjusting the nozzle to the lowest pressure. The flow is not straight out but spays at right angles to the nozzle. This took a little getting used to but is workable once you get the hang of it. There is a small strainer on the end of the pickup tube that worked its way loose. Now that I know it will come loose I pay closer attention to it as I suspect keeping foreign material out of the system is important to good operation. The price for this unit is less than most of the competition and although I am unfamiliar with the brand it has turned out to be an effective power washer. I've had no problems with any seals or leaks. I suggest that if you purchase this you read the instructions before using to ensure safe operation. The Ground Fault Interrupter on the plug end of the power cord was something I didn't expect but the instructions set me right on how to check it before use and it's become a source of confidence that I can operate this electrical device in a wet environment. Two wands come with it. I've yet to use the high pressure wand as the adjustable one meets my needs.
Customer Review: Should've listened - poor product Summary: 1 Stars
Should've listened to other reviews. Plans are to use a pressure washer 1-2 times/year, and decided on electric to avoid the problems inherent in gas powered products used infrequently. Used my Dad's 10 year old Sears Craftsman and it worked great, so figured electric would work for my light duty washing of house trim, sidewalks, decks, etc. Predominately positive reviews for the FAIP, but should have paid attention to the poor ones.
Received pressure washer, looked great, easy set up, and turned it on with great anticipation.
Water spewed from the hose to wand connection. Subsequently the spray coming from the wand wasn't strong enough to do anything. Tried to re-connect the handle to the hose, that was a fruitless exercise. Could not get the connection solid. Returned the pressure washer.
I will say that Amazon is a super seller of products. I've found many, many products here cheaper than anywhere, and their customer service is outstanding. Always fast shipping, and stand behind everything sold thru them. Amazon has always taken great care of me.
Now the delimma sets in, Sears doesn't make Craftsman any longer it appears, and no electric pressure washer that appears to be viewed in positive light by users. Hate to spend the money on gas, but guess I'll do it and fire it up once month for a few minutes just to keep fuel system from clogging up.
Customer Review: Burnt up junk now Summary: 1 Stars
I've had this pressure washer for almost a year. I have been using it for small jobs like blowing off dirt off my sidewalk/driveway/patio. It seemed to work fine for this, but I noticed any extended use over a few minutes and it started getting loud. Like it never had enough water and was running dry. My father borrowed it to pressure wash his entire fence, which is several hundred feet. He started noticing the same noise occassionally and after about 300ft, with about 20ft left the whole thing started smoking and died.
Now I know its under warranty, but I'm not paying to ship this big piece of junk back. I expected a little more longevity. Replaced it with a pressure washer from a local store and its working fine.
Also I'm not sure if everybody has this problem but the adjustable pressure tip it came with was useless. It simply leaked all over and produced less pressure out the end than my garden hose with a standard nossle. Being a brave soul I was I even stuck my hand in front of the thing to test the pressure and it was minimal at best, but it did do a good job of getting my clothes soaking wet.
Maybe this thing works for some, but I didn't find it reliable for any large jobs and based on the noises it was making I'm sure it wouldn't have lasted long at just the small ones either.
