Tools and Hardware Reviews of Pro Caulk Complete Caulking Kit (As Seen On TV)

Customer Review: Works as described, probably not worth the money
Summary: 3 Stars

I'd never caulked anything in my life and had to recaulk my shower. This seemed like a great place to start - includes caulk and all the tools needed.

First step was to remove the old caulk. The removal tool included is OK (with the caveat being that I've never used any others). It worked but is cumbersome, especially around corners. Definitely not as easy as they make it look in the commercials. After removing the old caulk, the instructions advised to clean thoroughly and let the area dry, which I did.

Then came time to apply new caulk - instructions said to run a bit, then run the tool with over it. OK, not so hard. It does its job, but a note, it works slightly less swimmingly when the walls are tiled - indents in the caulk appear at the grout separating the tiles. Again, cumbersome in the corners.

After initially doing the entire perimeter of the tub, I had some touching up to do. I'd read the reviews here and was aware of advice to use rubbing alcohol to make things go smoother. I tried this on my finger for the touch up - I found it very easy to do with my finger and I avoided the indentations I described above because I wasn't using the wall for guidance. That's why I say this may not be worth the money - it really is easy to do with a finger.

Customer Review: Pro Caulk...Time & Backache
Summary: 4 Stars

If you have never caulked before as was my case, you may want to check your favorite search engine or a you tube on how its best done. I found it invaluable because the professional told me to use blue painters tape about 1/8" away from each part of the joint. It takes time to remove the old caulk, in my case it was looking a little moldy so I had to get it out. It takes time to clean and dry the joint. You'll need to use a razor blade in addition to the caulk removal tool they supply. It takes more time to tape off the joint. Finally you are ready to slowly fill the joint with the sealant supplied. I found that the supplied amount was not enough for my purposes so I will have to caulk more in the future. The process of using the tool to spread the caulk actually goes pretty quickly. It must dry for 24 hours before you can get it wet. The finished product looked pretty good especially where the joint was close. I have an older house and there were some areas where it took more caulk or the joint wasn't quite level so it made the process a little tougher. My back and keister were a bit sore after this whole process also. Its not as easy as it appears in the infomercial, but its not that hard either. 4 out of 5 stars. It was an experience.

Customer Review: Works very well
Summary: 5 Stars

I am normally rather leery of products I see advertised on TV, especially tools like this. My wife surprised me with this set as a Christmas gift, and as I did need to do some caulking around some sinks in the bathroom, I decided to put it to the test.
I was rather impressed with the ease that I got the job done using this set. Both sinks took a total of only 20 minutes, including the time to open the package, prep the area, and clean up.
If there is a catch it is only that you have to be aware of the angle you are holding the tool, and to make sure you keep it square to the work surface. This only takes a small amount of practice, and once I got the hang of it, the project was done in only a few minutes.
Clean up of the tool was only a matter of wiping it off with an old rag.
I recommend this tool for anyone needing a simple way to get clean caulking lines.

Customer Review: Awesome Caulking Kit!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I finished doing the caulking on my bathtub. When we bought this house over eight years ago, we didn't realize what we were getting ourselves into. The lady who had owned it previously did the WORST construction on the home. She did it in the cheapest and the easiest way (not always best!!!) possible. It took me three hours total to get the caulking off (I did it in a few days, not in one night) because there was layer upon layer on the bathtub. It didn't take me long to caulk the bathtub. It took about 45 minutes. Just be sure to just caulk a little bit at a time, take your time, and you will have a beautiful final result! I used a warm, damp wash cloth to clean up as I went because if it dries, it's a pain to get off without damaging the caulking you JUST did. I would recommend this product to anyone!

Customer Review: Makes caulking easier
Summary: 5 Stars

I am happy with this product because it makes caulking so much easier. I love the different edges because they allow me to get better results. I've noticed that I get caulking repairs done much more quickly and with less mess and frustration than before. I used to use my finger or a plastic spoon to smooth the caulk and lots of damp paper towel to clean up the mess and extra caulk but now things stay neater. Of course some of the caulk will ooze out where you don't want it to go if you use too large a bead but its easy to wipe off and much less smears when I use these tools than when I used my finger. I have not tried the caulk remover tool yet. I normally just use a razor blade.
