Tools and Hardware Reviews of Safety Siren Pro Series HS71512 3 Radon Gas DetectorCustomer Review: Good investment Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this and was skeptical of the reading I got which was a bit high. I set it up in an upstairs room with good outside ventilation to get a baseline reading which should be around 0.5pCi/L. It tested to about 1.5 so I knew it was testing a bit high, but accurately. We had our level tested by a professional after they did mitigation and it was still testing 1 unit higher.
You can send the unit in for calibration, but it costs about seventy-five dollars. It's alot cheaper to find out where it falls by comparing your readings with the outside air to establish a baseline.
We now use this to monitor, and it easy to loan it out for others to use. Much better value than one time use canisters.
Customer Review: I recommend highly! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought 2 of these because I did not trust the accuracy and I figured with 2 I could see if they gave the same reading. To my surprise, they did within less then 1. My basement is slightly higher then it should be (rangers from 4 to 8 depending on the weather) so I put one at my daughters house because she had a new baby and was concerned. It read 26! I then brought the second one over and the same thing. She had a radon company come in and they said it was correct. She had a Radon system put in and now is always less then 1. I keep one at her house in and one at mine and we both feel much better always knowing what we cannot see. I guess its time to try there carbon monoxide detector also it they have one.
Customer Review: Great Radon Gas Detector! Summary: 5 Stars
I looked into getting one of the kits that you have to send in to a lab for the results, but after reading the reviews about this radon detector, I ordered it instead. I agree with the other positive reviews it got. It is very easy to set up and use, and the results I believe are accurate. We got a variety of readings depending on which room of our basement we put the detector - so now we are working with a contractor to install a radon gas mitigation system in our home (since the highest reading we had was around 200 picocuries per liter, or pCi/L, way over the maximum 4 pCi/L advised by the EPA.) Now we are lending this unit out to family & friends in our area. I recommend this unit.
Customer Review: Believe it really works Summary: 5 Stars
The documentation I got with my house showed a radon reading above 50.0 before a mitigation system was installed and < 4.0 after it was installed.
The radon mitigation fan broke and I falsely thought painting / sealing the basement floor (years ago) would stop the radon.
After plugging in this unit I got a reading (after a few days) around 10.0 and it went up day by day. I replaced the mitigation fan when the reading was around 20.0. This unit then showed the level go down each day (took about 2 weeks to get to safe level).
Highly recommend this considering you can spend $15.00 a pop on those radon testers you mail in. One I used said I had a safe level.
Customer Review: worked for 3-4 days Summary: 1 Stars
I've had the radon detector for about a month. Didn't set it up right away--you know, quick shipping and then let it sit for a week or so. Anyway, initial reading of 2.5 corresponded well with my "send-in" kits. Then, "error message". Went through the manual to clear and reset. Then in a few days: "E,E,E,E", handbook silent on that one. Cleared OK, though. Then "8,8,8,8"--cleared OK. Then, "8.8.8.5"... That was today. Window to return to Amazon "closed 3/18". Have to get an RA number from the company and send it back "postage prepaid" (I think that means by me). Haven't had anything fail right out of the box in a long time. Hope this one is a fluke.
