Customer Review: This is one of the most powerful ionizers out there.

This ionizer is one of the smallest and I believe most powerful ionizers on the market. Many larger ones put out much less ion/sqr inch. There are only tens of thousands in nature. Maybe 100,000 negative ions at a major waterfall. This puts out 2 million. It also kills odor, keeps the air fresh and is effective for Seasonal Affective Disorder. Depending on its severity - generally not as a treatment without bright light therapy but as a critical adjunctive treatment. I have had one plugged in for more than a year and it keeps going. Ions help mood and are theoried to effect the serotonergic and dopaminergic neurotransmitter systems in the brain. They are also said to enhance oxygen transoport to the brain - which may be a key factor in SAD as a recent study showed cognitive deficits, along with mood in percentages of populations afflicted with SAD varying according to solar insolation of an area (do a search on shia kent and SAD). The theory on its effect on cognition is that sunlight or bright light therapy (<10,000lux) increases blood flow to the brain. Several double blind studies showed a negative ionzer to be as effective as an antideprerssant for SAD. [....] The studies compared a low density ionizer that put out 10,000 ions and a high density one that put out a little less than 3 million. The low density was not effective but the high density was.
