Tools and Hardware Reviews of Chrome Countertop Water Filter

Customer Review: False Advertisement -- Lead removal?
Summary: 1 Stars

I live in an old house with lead soldered pipes, and must have a filter on my kitchen faucet to ensure my drinking water is safe. According to the Amazon description, this filter is claimed to remove lead. When I received it, the information included in the package comprised a poorly-copied, 2-page poorly-written instruction sheet on how to install the filter unit. There was no information whatsoever on the pollutant removal efficiency of the filter, as one has the right to expect. I contacted the manufacturer to ask, specifically about the filter's lead removal efficiency -- not chloride, and to ask what to do about the leak around the base (present from the outset). I received the following reply, from a mysteriously named Yahoo account:

"Dear Brooke,
We would like to let you know that filter performance in terms of percent efficiency it removes Chloride for 90%. one of the option you've got is to open and close carbon filter straight-tight, that may help.

Thank you,
Purenex."

I responded with:

"Hi there,
You didn't answer my question about lead (as in the element, "Pb."). Does the filter take out lead, or not?

Thanks."

I sent this follow up message on Dec 8th. It is now the 21st and I have yet to hear from them. I've ordered another filter (Culligan, as suggested by Consumer Reports), and am buying my drinking water until I get it. (Oh, to be fair, the leak fix they suggested did work.)

Customer Review: as filters go
Summary: 4 Stars

I like it that it's chrome. It actually looks like stainless steel and to maintain the finish all you have to do is rinse and dry with a cloth and it shines like in the photo. I was a bit concerned about not being able to find the right filter but it was actually offered on the same page but not from the same seller. Then I was worried it would leak as so often happens with these models, but so far so good. It's 6 months so I changed the filter. A couple of times someone turned on hot water including myself so I figure even though it said the filter is good for a year we probably messed it up.
I had the plastic housing for this model and it always leaked. I had to mess with it to get it to work properly. Sometimes just taking out the o ring gaskets worked but this model doesn't leak.
Just put the new filter in and no fuss no problem - and I use the water for cooking. I still buy the bottled to carry and am just spoiled but this water is good no doubt.

Customer Review: It's nice to have water that doesn't smell anymore
Summary: 5 Stars

I've had mine for a couple of months and the flow rate hasn't noticeably diminished yet. I fill up a water pitcher in the morning in order to make efficient use of the filter. It looks good and doesn't get in my way like those faucet-mounted contraptions with much lower flow rates and dinky filters that don't last very long you see in the stores. Only having to change filters annually is very convenient. Short of buying a whole-house filter this is the filter to get.

Customer Review: Not sure what I received
Summary: 1 Stars

Very disappointed with the product that I received. I have seen the Paragon chrome water filters, and this did not compare. I am not sure if someone swapped out a return, and that I received this unit on a later order... but the product that I received was really poor quality. The chrome all over the unit was blistering off, and the screws on the bottom were corroded. Definitely returned it.

Customer Review: Great water, good price
Summary: 5 Stars

Water from this filter tastes great. Installation is simple. Replacement filters are cheap (just bought one for 30 bucks). This works much better than your standard PUR or Brita IMO. Another good feature is the separate spout. If you have a shallow sink this is a must. You can get a glass of water even if your sink is full of dirty dishes. :)
