Tools and Hardware Reviews of Analog Hygrometer 2.25" by Western Humidors

Customer Review: Wasted money
Summary: 1 Stars

I purchased this as my first hygrometer to go in my new humidor. I put it in a plastic bag with a small dish of the moist salt mixture to get the humidity in the bag to 75%. When I put the screwdriver in the back to turn the reading from 60% to 75%, it stopped around 68% and wouldn't adjust any higher. My screwdriver actually bent the flimsy metal a bit before I decided a moment later that this hygrometer is total junk. I wasted my money trying this product because most of the reviews say it's a pretty good hygrometer. Taking the cap off the top and removing the face reminds me of a 6th grade science project on humidity. To replace this one which I got yesterday, I'll go to the cigar shop here in town to get a good hygrometer. Had I found this in a store and picked it up, I would not have bought it because the metal feels like reinforced aluminum foil.

Customer Review: perfection
Summary: 5 Stars

Bought this to put in my guitar case. Fits nicely in the space where the neck meets the body of the guitar. I also bought the $3 calibration kit that Amazon sells. Left it in the bag for 36 hours and it read 77-78% instead of the 75.5% the calibration bag said it should. Took it out of the bag, turned the adjustment screw on the back to lower it by 2%, put it back in the bag for another 36 hours. It went to 75% within a few hours and stayed there for the remaining time in the bag. I also have a digital hygrometer/temp gauge that I set it next to and they both agreed within a degree or two. It's certainly accurate enough for what I wanted it for. You can't go wrong for the price. Highly recommended. This is the calibration kit I bought Boveda One-Step Calibration

Customer Review: It's simple and it does the job
Summary: 5 Stars

It's simple. It looks nice. It will never need batteries.

This is a truly lovely hygrometer. I have no complaints.

You should calibrate it, either with a readymade calibration kit or a little bit of damp salt in a small container in a ziplock bag. (I read about that method on the internet, but I used a readymade kit. I have no way of knowing whether one is superior to the other. Theoretically they should give identical results.) (Calibrating it requires a screwdriver. Or possibly the edge of a dime would work.)

In this era of battery operated products that go obsolete or break within six months, here's a device that has no reason to stop doing its job, ever. Kinda freaks me out a little, but in a nice way. Recommended.

Customer Review: Inexpensive & Accurate Little Hygrometer
Summary: 5 Stars

I don't smake cigars, but I purchased five of these a couple of months ago to get a better idea of the humidity levels in our home prior to installing some rather expensive wood flooring. All read fairly similarly when I received them, but I did a salt calibration anyway (used a small bowl of moist salt in a freezer baggie to get them set at 75%) and they have been working great!

I keep two upstairs, two downstairs and one in the basement and they have been extremely useful for keeping our humidifiers set properly to maintain about 40-45% humidity so far this winter. The piano stays in tune and we haven't had to invest in gallons of skin moisturizer this year. Couldn't be happier, especially since they're so inexpensive and easy to keep in calibration.

Customer Review: Not as accurate at low humidity
Summary: 5 Stars

This thing is very inexpensive, looks good, and does the job well enough, but not very accurate on low humidity. I bought 3 of them and put them all in a 75.5% calibration bag for a couple days. I calibrated them, left them in the bag another day to confirm they were all reading 75.5, then took them out and left them next to each other in my living room. Two days later, they ranged from 33% to 40%. Accurate enough for what I'm looking for, but not very accurate. I'm sure they are very accurate for humidors since you are supposed to keep those at 70%. And maybe they have calibration bags that are down in the 40% range, I didn't look. But it seems clear that they will only be accurate near the range you calibrate it to.
