Tools and Hardware Reviews of Analog Hygrometer 2.25" by Western HumidorsCustomer Review: Attractive and accurate. Summary: 4 Stars
This is an attractive little brass instrument. I particularly like the sticky tape/magnet mounting method. Good price. It's a bit small, but easy enough to read. No battery needed. Using the salt method for calibration, the accuracy was spot on on both the units I purchased. Update, 03/08/2011. I have since ordered 3 more of these. I have to monitor humidity carefully thanks to a serious dry skin condition in winter. These are now in virtually every room in my house and doing an excellent job.
Customer Review: Sometimes it does not work well Summary: 3 Stars
Generally, it works well. But if you put it in a high-humidity environment, some water vapor probably may enter it through the holes on its edge, resulting in its failure to work. When you encounter this situation, you can put it into direct sunshine or somewhere with hot temperature to let the water vapor disappear. And after done, the product will work again.
BTW: it works better (I mean, accurately) than some digital products with similar price.
Customer Review: Small, not very accurate, but tough Summary: 4 Stars
This humidity gauge will require calibration straight out of the box. I used the humidity transmitter on my humidifier as a standard since it is only a month old and still accurate. An alternative method might be to use a steam bath (a boiling pot of water). Note that altitude does not matter since we're talking about "relative humidity." A steam bath will produce 100% relative humidity directly over the bath.

Customer Review: Terrific little hygrometer Summary: 5 Stars
I ordered this hygrometer because I needed something small enough to fit in my guitar cases to keep up with the humidity in them. The size is perfect for my needs. A friend ordered a much more expensive instrument. Hers is a little more accurate, but we kept them together for a day or so, and while this one didn't have the same results, they were consistently different. I now know what to add to get the proper reading, and I saved about $25.00 by choosing this one!
Customer Review: Perfect size...thanks! Summary: 5 Stars
Just what I had in mind - an inexpensive analog hygrometer to measure the humidity in the house. I'm just not sure that all the sites that explain how to calibrate have it 'just-so'. The total wrapping in moist cloth gives broad parameters. The enclosure in a moist-salt baggie is similarly not perfect. I still have no idea EXACTLY what the humidity is. But this is 'way better than that weird beeping digital thing I got with my new in-furnace humidifier.
