Tools and Hardware Reviews of RAD Cycle Products Ceiling Mount Bike Hoist

Customer Review: Great Deal
Summary: 5 Stars

The product worked as advertised. You may connect it in parallel directly to the joist, but will need a 2x4 piece of wood if you desire to connect it perpendicular to the beams. The brake works very well - if you suddenly let go of the rope, it immediately stops. I recommend threading the rope through each stage (there are 4 sections) before mounting to the ceiling.

One thing that you should know is that it is not really possible to get your bike all the way to the ceiling. I tried placing the clips in different places (i.e. wheels, bar, etc.), but then the balance of the system was lost and it became difficult to raise uniformly. So, be aware if your overhead is tight. You should add about 6-10 inches onto the height of your bike to determine how low it will hang.

There were a lot of higher priced alternatives, but this one worked fine. I started with 2, but will be purchasing more in the future. I highly recommend this product.

Customer Review: worth the money

Customer Review: Does the job Well
Summary: 4 Stars

I think the construction on this thing is fine and certainly worth the price compared to others. It operates smoothly if you assemble it properly and use the measurements they provide. I was overly cautious when installing it so I deviated a little from their directions which meant I had to make a trip to the hardware store. Once I had everything though it went together and up pretty easy. I'm getting another one for another bike and will probably end up owning a couple more as my kids get older and their bikes also need to be stored. Can't imagine how you could be disappointed with this thing. If you are thinking about trying it before buying multiples don't bother. I did that so now I'm going to have to get all my stuff out all over again, it would have been easier to mount them at the same time. For best results I suggest mounting to a flat 2x4 first, it might not look as pretty but it's not going anywhere.

Customer Review: What I paid for
Summary: 3 Stars

Read all the reviews. They are all dead on. Product is basically rather cheap, but will do the job. I believe the product is geared to the person who wants to hang little Jack or Jill's scooter from the ceiling of the already toy-stuffed storage compartment that they call a garage. The rope should be replaced ASAP as it is pathetic, but once again, the whole thing didnt cost much. Mounting it soundly to most garage ceilings does prove to be a pain in the saddle bone. I have a relatively light -20lb road bike (not my best)hanging on this contraption above my pickup. I feel relatively certain that it is ok and will not fall down and whack my wife's Audi sitting on the other side of the garage, as that would most likely cause a rift in our relationship. Bottom line, dont expect anything more than what you have read about in all the reviews as there are no really good or bad surprises here.

Customer Review: Good product, good price, is exactly what I needed
Summary: 5 Stars

The product was exactly what I needed. Purchased three of the same to lift bikes out of the way. Better price then local stores. I have 12' ceilings in my garage and so these get the bike's completely out of the way. After measuring and finding stud's, I determined the best mounting would be to put a 1 x 4 against the ceiling sheet rock. This made it very easy to measure and attach the lift system to the board on the ground first, then I mounted the board the the ceiling. I'm guessing it took me about 30 minutes to do the first one and then about 15 minutes each for the others. The long cord worked out great for me, I didn't need to trim anything.

The pulley system isn't a fast lifting system. I take my time lifting it up and down but it requires little effort. It's clean, easy to use and the right price. Well worth it.
