I bought this as a present for my husband who was frustrated at the amount of grapefruit left behind when using a regular curved knife to fix his grapefruit half for eating. This knife does a really fast and efficient job of removing the sweet grapefruit flesh from the bitter rind and pulp and there is very little grapefruit left behind that the knife doesn't release. As for the disparaging comments by another reviewer, the knife is easily cleaned by the dish cleaning brush that I routinely use at the sink to keep from having to get my hands in detergent. All good knives should be hand cleaned and stored in a magnetic or wooden slot knife holder in order to preserve the cutting edge on the blades. There is no danger from this knife if you have proper storage for your knives.
P.S. really easy and fantastic first course in place of salad: Cut a large grapefruit in half and section. Pour 2 tablespoons of amaretto(almond) liquor over top of grapefruit. Refrigerate 15-30 minutes to let amaretto diffuse through the grapefruit. Place marachino cherry in grapefruit center and serve. Yum!
