I got one of these from a Meritline sale some time ago, tossed it in a the pack rat drawer, then forgot about it. Tonight, I tested it for the first time. My verdict is that its kind of a joke. First, I had to get the battery compartment off, which surprisingly took a pair of pliers to accomplish. After I yanked out the battery cartridge and inserted the batteries, I laboriously adjusted the head strap to the correct dimensions for my head. In so doing, the strap popped out of a bracket on one side of the light--not reassuring at all. I put it back in place on my head and turned the light on. At full brightness, it is pretty bright--nothing like the better lights but not bad.
It would be a tragic case of "pennywise and pound foolish" to count on this thing to function when you need it. Don't put in your glove box expecting it to work when you need to change a tire in the rain. Definitely don't put it in your storm cellar or earthquake kit. The junky housing keeps out water like a screen door. At best, this is a backup or a disposable kid's toy. Presently, the LED technology and market competition is such that you can get a MUCH better headlamp (by that I mean Petzl) with almost foolproof reliability for only a bit more.
