Tools and Hardware Reviews of Racor PBS-2R Two-Bike Floor Bike Stand

Customer Review: Some glitches, but works OK
Summary: 4 Stars

I've had this stand for over a year now. Took about five minutes to get it together. Held my 26" mountain bike just fine. I recently bought a new 26" MTB with disc brakes. The good news is that the disc rotors 'just barely' clear the support arms on this stand. You do have to futz with the bike's position on the stand a bit or the bike will 'lean' slightly on the rotor, but it isn't that hard to make it work. The bad news is that the support arm pairs are too close together to allow two mountain bikes of the same frame size to coexist peacefully in the same orientation. With front wheels inserted into the frame the handlebars clash big time. It works better if one bike has the front wheel in the frame and the other the rear wheel. The handlebar of one bike will still contact the seat of the other bike, but a simple turn of the handlebar on the outward-facing bike fixes this. This stand was obviously designed for two road bikes side-by-side, not MTBs. It would probably also be OK with two bikes of different frame sizes. Other than that, though, it's plenty sturdy and works well.

Customer Review: Assembly Was A Nightmare
Summary: 4 Stars

I assigned 4 stars because (after the nightmare assembly process) it is a very sturdy and functional rack. Suggestions to make assembly easier:

1. Do NOT use the Allen wrench provided as it is made of inferior material and will strip the screws provided. A quality Allen wrench will work with the screws provided.

2. The manufacturer uses mostly very short screws which makes it very difficult to attach the legs to the other pieces. After struggling with several of the small screws at least 20 minutes, I discovered it is possible to begin by using the larger screws to first bring the pieces together - then back out the large screw and replace it with a small screw, which will than work easily. The manufacturer should have used all larger screws which would work with the design of the pieces.

NOTE TO MANUFACTURER: STOP PROVIDING A WORTHLESS ALLEN WRENCH WHICH, IF USED, DESTROYS THE SCREWS!
ALSO, IF THE MACHINE PROCESS CAN'T BE IMPROVED TO MAKE THE PIECES SLIDE IN PROPERLY, PROVIDE ALL LARGER SCREWS.

Customer Review: does NOT fit 27" road bike tires.
Summary: 2 Stars

After reading some reviews on Amazon, I ordered the PBS-2R stand for my two road bikes. It came in a giant box mostly full of packing paper. I set it up, and was pleased with the quality and sturdiness of the unit. The assembly was easy, especially after various other negative reviews of the unit (perhaps quality control has gotten better?).

I went to put my old road bike (27") front tire into the unit, and... it doesn't fit. The tire won't seat into the rack and sit stably on the ground. Instead the front top hits the top of the rack opening, and the tire is a full two inches off the ground, meaning the bike is unstable and the rim torqued.

This rack probably works fine for kids bikes, for 26" tires on mountain bikes (without disc brakes), and maybe other bikes, but a 27" tire WILL NOT sit in the rack with the tire on the ground. This needs to be made clear in the Amazon.com description of the unit.

Unfortunately, mine is headed back to the post office and back to Amazon.

Customer Review: Functions well, though assembly is irksome
Summary: 4 Stars

This bike rack does well exactly what it's supposed to do: hold a couple of bikes upright in a small space. I am using it to keep our bikes uncluttered in the garden shed where they are stored, and from falling on each other and the shed's other contents. This stand is just right for such an application. It is light enough that it can be easily moved, yet heavy enough that it does not slide around when you are putting a bike in or out of it. Do not confuse this with the type of rack that you can lock your bikes to and leave securely -- this unit is not tough enough for that.
Assembly was relatively straightforward, but it was difficult to get the last few screws to line up with their holes, and the "wrench" that they provide is a worthless piece of scrap iron. Manufacturing tolorances were obviously quite loose, but for a primitive piece of hardware such as this, that is forgivable.
Overall, a decent value for the price paid, that performs its appointed task well.

Customer Review: Bike Stand
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this bike stand for our bikes at home, while not in use. I was surprised that it was so easy to put together and very sturdy once assembled. Which by the way, the assembly took less time to complete than unpacking the box and gathering my screwdrivers. I first used the stand in the rear of my truck to stabilize my bike. I had to transport my bike from the bike shop and get it home. My SPECIALIZED bike does not have a kickstand and I do not drive prudently and even in a moving vehicle this stand kept my bike stable, at highway speeds nonetheless! I realize this stand was not made for my particular application, but it worked very well and if it can handle a 50 mile ride home in the bed of my pickup it will do excellent in your garage holding your carbon fiber, full suspension, limited edition. Needless to say the stand works very well keeping my wife's bike and my bike in place. Great value, great product, easy to assemble and quick shipping.
