Customer Review: Bike Stand Does Double Duty

The bike stand was purchased to carry bicycles in my pickup. In the past, when I leaned them against the side rails, the paint got nicked. If they were laid down, the gears could get damaged. The trailer hitch set-up didn't appeal to me, so I bought this and built a wooden frame to hold it in place in the bed. The bike stand stays in place with a bag of sand over the base frame and bungee cords to hold the bikes upright on turns. Works great!
When assembling the parts, bolt them all together loosely at first. The "S" shaped arms may need to be swapped end-to-end as the bends aren't quite perfect. When you are satisfied with the result and it is level, then tighten the bolts. It definitely holds the bikes without needing a kickstand. Do note that the front wheel should go into the stand, as the rear wheel gears will hit otherwise.

I received my Racor PBS-2R bike rack today and was quite disappointed the minute that I opened the box. The rack was shipped in its original packaging and the box was mildly beat up. Most of the hardware was floating around in the box not in the bags like they should have been. Most of the pieces were scratched as well.Once I started putting it together I realized that I had two left U's. Flipping over one of the U's works, but the screws will no longer be recessed like they should be. It works, but I am not the only person to have this problem. There are other people who have complained about the same problem here on Amazon. After reading the other reviews I decided against ordering two, and ordered only one to be safe. I am glad I did. I won't be ordering the second one unless they improve their Quality Control.

This Racor unit is pretty much the same thing you'll see in bicycle shops. It's solidly made, and heavy enough to keep a pair of bikes standing upright.Who needs it? Anyone with kids, I think. Getting kids to park their bikes somewhere that (1) you won't back over them with the car (2) you won't trip over them coming out of the house is always a struggle; just getting them to do something other than simply drop them on the ground where they got off can be a major task.
This stand makes that task just a little easier by providing a fixed place to stash the bikes with little or no effort. Place one on the back porch and one in the garage and you'll always know where the bikes are. Oh, and if you're an adult with a lot of bike riding friends, place one or two by your side door. Your friends will appreciate it!

I read all of the reviews and was prepared for some parts to be missing, but since Amazon has such a stellar returns policy and the bike stand was so cheap, I ordered it anyway.
I got it a few days later, opened it up and all of the parts were there. I had it assembled in about 5 minutes with the included allen wrench.
The bike stand works great. It holds our two mountain bikes securely in the garage. One of the bikes has disk brakes and I was nervous that the design of the stand would interfere with the disks, but it fits just fine with about 1 inch of clearance. I have the Avid BB5 mechanical disk brakes with the 160mm rotors. So, if you have larger rotors, they might not work with this stand.
Overall, I've been very happy. This is a great affordable stand.

Good product. Takes about 10 minutes to assemble. If you have a mountain bike or other with disc brakes, make sure you spread the outer wheel insert bars to provide enough spacing for the rotor. This took some effort to spread the center portion of the wheel slot bar. Do this prior to tightening the screws on the unit. Also, you can opt to take a dish towel and fold it, and them wrap it around the top portion of the wheel slot (where the tire touches the wheel slot) and use zip ties to keep the bike stable and secure without hitting the disc rotor. With slight modifications, the stand functions very well without touching the brake rotors. Overall decent bike stand. This unit holds my Gary Fisher HiFi Deluxe '08 and Trek Madone 5.2 '08 without issue (except listed above).
