Tools and Hardware Reviews of Racor PHL-1R Pro HeavyLift 4-by-4-Foot Cable-Lifted Storage RackCustomer Review: Very Awesome Storage Unit! Summary: 5 Stars
This product did exactly what we needed. We live in and area where ice fishing is a winter activity, the only problem is you can only fish about 4 months of the year. We needed a place to store our portable fish houses during the rest of the year so I started looking for storage units. All of the ones sold in the stores were permanent ceiling fixtures so you would have to get the fish house up there some how in order to store it up there. The nice thing with the Racor is you can load the fish house on it at waist level and hoist it up with a drill. It takes very little muscle to use it. Everyone that sees it thinks it's a great idea. I would recommend this product for anyone looking to get their garage space back.
Customer Review: Best garage storage system available! Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased three Heavy Lift's from Amazon over a year ago and have been extremely pleased with these storage devices. They are ruggedly built and easy to install. The units come with a hand crank which works well but I have found that cutting the handle off and using a portable electric drill makes raising and lowering the unit a dream. One of my units has developed a slight roughness in the gearbox. I sent an email to Racor describing the problem and have learned that a new gearbox is already in route at no charge. This email was answered in less than 24 hours. A great product and wonderful customer support - it doesn't get any better. I give this storage unit my highest recommendation.
Customer Review: Not too shabby Summary: 4 Stars
Managed to get this installed by myself after about 4 hours of labor, give or take. I was caught a little off guard when I discovered the nuts and bolts on this are metric but it's not a huge problem. However, you will want a ratchet or socket driver to install this thing as screwing in all the mounting bolts gets tiring quickly.
As far as usage goes, it's pretty good. You have to crank a lot to get it all the way up and down but it's not a huge issue since you probably won't need access to it all that often.
Overall, I would definitely get one of these again and I think I may get another one of these in the future to increase the storage in my garage even further.
Customer Review: Did not live up to expectations Summary: 1 Stars
I purchased this item based on 3 glowing recommendations. When the kit arrived, the original box was in sorry shape, held together only by a large amount of packing tape.
I attempted to put the product together, only to find that the bottom grate (which you put items on when completed) would not sit flush with the crossbar. The method of securing the grate to the bar were J-hooks, and did not function as required. Plus, one of the hooks were not threaded as the others - requiring a call to the manufacter to replace. I am thoroughly displeased, and returning this item promptly. I can't believe that it would hold 260 pounds. Looks like I need to find another storage solution.
Customer Review: happy customer Summary: 5 Stars
When I first read the reviews about this product, I was a little nervous at first since there had been several reviewers talking about the poor quality of screws/nuts that came with the unit. I personally did not have any particular problem with the supplied material and I did not have to go out and buy any additional screws. After locating the studs in the garage ceiling, the rest of the installation was straightforward (and I am not a "skilled handyman") It took me about 4 hours since I had no help which makes it a little more challenging as you need to support the rack floor while you finish the installation. All in all, I am quite happy and have cleaned up a lot of my garage.
