Tools and Hardware Reviews of Racor Pro PLB-2R Two-Bike Gravity Freestanding Bike Stand

Customer Review: Easy Space-Saver
Summary: 5 Stars

I just recently moved into a very small house (no garage) and have just recently taken up cycling (in addition to bicycle-commuting to work everyday). As such, I needed a place to safely put both bikes (one 15-year-old mountain bike, one glorious new women's road bike) in a small space. I think this bike stand is fabulous. It took me all of 15 minutes to assemble, no tools needed at all (contrary to some other reviews). Since I have solid block walls in my little rental home, I declined bolting the top of the vertical to the wall, and have had no stability issues with either one or two bikes mounted in any configuration. I generally put the road bike on top since I can't quite lift the mountain bike ... The arms are easily-adjustable (again, requiring no tools) and independently adjustable. The vinyl coating on the arms is great for the bike that's too pretty to scuff, but doesn't seem prone to wear-and-tear like a foam piece might be. It takes up very little space in my very little bedroom, and will be quite easy to pack-up and transport elsewhere. Great product.

Customer Review: It does not make you garage bigger, but it helps
Summary: 4 Stars

Pros:
- easy to assemble
- easy to adjust
- what you see is what you get (almost)
- stable enough with one or two bikes
- no drilling, movable
- play around and you may discover absolutely unpredictable place for it (I did)

Cons:
- it is not *really* easy to adjust it initially to hang two bikes - plan to spend 15 minutes shuffling your bikes here and there (good exercise, though); also note that at the product picture the top bike is half a feet higher than the stand - that may not be your case (not mine, for sure, but two bikes still fit)
- plastic parts (there are some covering rotating hooks connections) break easily, though it does not break the product
- it is not very stable without bikes - not dramatically, just be carefull; Racor includes parts to attach top of the stand to the wall, but to my mind that defeats the whole idea of "freestanding"

Conclusion: good, solid (speaking of metal parts), cheap product. Works well.

Customer Review: Functional, but not gravity defying
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this bike stand for hanging two bikes in my garage. The assembly was simple taking only a few minutes. The pieces did not fit together as tightly as I would expect. So while no screws or bolts were required, having the pieces bolted together would have been better for piece of mind. Positioning the cradles took a couple of tries to get them just right for each bike due to the slope of the bike cross bars.

When I attempted to hang both bikes, I quickly learned that the statement "A mounting kit is also included for optional wall mounting" was laughable. There was no way this stand was going to stay up and be sturdy without the wall mount. Had the stand not come with the wall mounts I would have given it a lower rating. Once the stand was mounted to the wall (I was fortunate enough to be able to mount into a stud, but a drywall mount was also included) the stand was sturdy and firmly supported both bikes. Overall I am quite satisfied with the performance of this stand.

Customer Review: Space Saver!
Summary: 4 Stars

I recently bought one of these Racor Gravity freestanding bike stand. I have two BMX bikes that I needed a "nice" way to store rather than laying them on the sofa by the entry way. My wife and I had just moved to an aparment while we are getting ready to build our house. Not having a garage or mud room anymore ment that the bikes either needed to be in our computer room or in the living room. Finally after see these things at target and bed bath and beyond, i bought one.

I was suprised at first to see that they "recommend" that you attach it to the wall with a HUGE lag bolt. That completely breaks the idea to me that it's "Free Standing". Besides that though, with the base on carpet, and the top against a painted wall... It's very stable. Even after an angry night of riding i can toss the bike on the rack, and it will not colapse on me.

All in all, it's a nice rack, and it's pretty cheap... and you don't have to have a bolt.

Customer Review: Bulky. Nothing fancy. But does what it's supposed to.

If you really care about aesthetics, this won't be installed in a highly-visible spot. But it's about as functional as a stand gets. There are adjustments you can make on the stands 'arms' depending on the slant of the top bar on the bike, so that's helpful. Is it deceptive to call it gravity... freestanding? I suppose, but anyone that actually looks at the picture or does some common sense research can see that you need a wall to prop this against. There is also an option to anchor it to the wall, but I've gone so far without doing so. It's not much of a space-saver - it does keep you from leaning one bike against the other in a precarious spot, which is what I needed both to save some space and to keep either bike away from harm. Also nice to work on a bike more at eye-level sometimes and avoid buying a workstand for easy fixes.

It's not pretty, but it does the trick. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it as a good & cheap option.
