Tools and Hardware Reviews of Racor Pro PLB-2R Two-Bike Gravity Freestanding Bike Stand

Customer Review: Works fine, but terrible shipping packaging
Summary: 3 Stars

The rack works as promised. It works without a bolt to the wall, but I was very afraid of what would happen if somebody bumped it, so I screwed it in. However, it just takes one screw, so it doesn't damage your wall too much.

It will fit two bikes ok, provided they are not both really large. My husband's bike (he's 6'3") and my bike (I'm 5'7") use the very top and very bottom of the range. Two XL bikes might overlap.

The biggest problem is that this big heavy steel thing ships in a small, unpadded box. Mine came pretty beat up and missing one rubber foot. The box was ripped open from the weight of the stuff inside, and the bottom U-shaped piece was dented in a few places from the other pieces hitting it in transit. Not enough for me to complain or return it, just enough to make me grumble and decide I'd rather have a working bike rack now than a pretty one with all the hassle of trying to return the thing.

Customer Review: Freestanding? Kind of...
Summary: 3 Stars

1. Bottomline:
a. Read the fine print because this bike rack, although "free standing", really does require a screw into the wall... and of course the screw they supply is no long enough to reach a stud (really smart). Thus although I bought this bike rack for the thought that it would be no fuss and no hassle, guess what--> there is semi-fuss because you really should anchor it; no matter what these folks say, if you're going to put two adult sized bikes on this thing--> it's not stable / safe enough to just leave without an anchor
b. In terms of putting it together, it's pretty simple / straightforward.
c. In terms of holding up the bikes; it does a decent job (look at the notes above).
d. In terms of the space savings; that's a tough one to call. I know it's a vague statement but it's true. Bikes are big and they take up space, no matter how you store them.

Customer Review: Holds the bikes but it's not really a freestanding
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought a couple of these stands and mounted four of the bikes I had on them (two each of course). The problem is that unless the bike is big and well balanced (front/back) the stand will bend over due to the middle joint. It's on the verge of being dangerous and so I don't let my kids be around it. Of course it comes with screws to attack to the wall, but it's supposed to be free standing and the screwed are against a child pulling the bikes rather than a permanent fixed solution when holding bikes passively.
The stand is holding the bikes gently and in place using a rubber coating on the hooks and you can adjust the hooks' height.

I wouldn't use this stand as a free standing bike rack.

Pros:
- Holds two full size bikes
- Gentle firm holding of bikes
- Looks nice and impressive

Cons:
- Rather unstable
- Requires perfectly balanced leveled ground.

Customer Review: racor PLB-2r gravity bike rack
Summary: 3 Stars

Prior to puchasing I checked out the product reviews from prior customers. I found these to be very helpful in purchasing this product. Conceptually it is an excellent idea, it requires little space and handles two bicycles nicely. I must agree with several of the other reviews, the rack arrived in scratched condition and the finish coat was third world powdercoat. This is a shame for this could be a high end product that I would gladly pay a premium price for if they improved the quality of the finish and enhanced the meager packing material. I did not, as some reported, find the rack difficult to assemble.

If you are looking for a garage level bike rack this is the one, if you want one to store your $5,000 roadbike inside the home, look somewhere else, you will be dissapointed.

As a side note I checked AMAZON today and the price has dropped $10.00 to 39.99, lets see if AMAZON will refund the difference

Customer Review: Just what we wanted
Summary: 5 Stars

This would probably not make a good freestanding option with mountain bikes or other heavy designs. That said, it has been a wonderful space-saving addition to our apartment. We have it out in the living room and it has made the room much larger than when the bikes were taking up a bunch of floor space. It is perfectly capable of holding our road bikes without any wobbles and I am constantly hearing compliments from friends - it looks much nicer than bikes leaning in a corner (besides, it's better for the bikes). I am very satisfied with my purchase. The rack took ~5 minutes to assemble (no problems like other reviewers mentioned) and it is easy to adjust the heights of the hanging bikes. We take the bikes on and off regularly (actually, we use the one on the bottom every day) and still no wobbles. If you want a freestanding rack and have road bikes, I can't think of a better one for the price.
