Tools and Hardware Reviews of Racor Pro PLB-2R Two-Bike Gravity Freestanding Bike StandCustomer Review: Serves my purpose Summary: 4 Stars
The box was torn in places but contents OK. Took about 10 minutes to assemble, mainly to get desired positions of the bike holders. I have only one bike so I didn't put the top piece on. The cap does not fit the middle section, though. I have it free standing, about two inches from my porch with no way to ahchor it. Need the two inches so the HUGE all-weather BBQ cover has room to fit over the rack and bike. So far the unit has withstood some windy days. The manufacturer has great customer service and responded quickly to all my questions. Informed me that the unit will eventually rust if left in the rain. I'd give 5 stars if it wouldn't rust!
Edit: A HUGE wind storm blew the stand over. Poor bike! So now the rack AND bike are secured to the porch railing with bungee cords. The BBQ cover no longer fits because of the cords. Unfortunately there's no room in the house for the bike.
Customer Review: It Works With Limitations Summary: 4 Stars
This assembles in 10 minutes and the quality of the materials is good for the price I paid, $50.00. I did not secure the stand to the wall because it was very stable. How level your floor is will effect the stability of this stand. I placed one bike which has a straight top tube on the upper brackets and it holds it well. However, my big Electra Townie 8 cruiser bike with a sloping top tube did not sit well on the lower brackets no matter how I adjusted the brackets. This bike is heavy and it was impossible to balance this bike in the confined space where I set the rack. Besides, it looked goofy, lopsided and it interfered with the top bike. So I use the kickstand and park it below the top bike and removed the lower brackets. It's a clean organized look, but for safety reasons, I wouldn't compromise this way if I had children. For what I paid, it works for me and it's a good value.
Customer Review: Good, Not Perfect Summary: 4 Stars
After reading the reviews here, I ordered this rack thinking that it was a bit of a crapshoot. I was pleasantly surprised with what I received; I think the manufacturer has tightened up the product since many of these reviews were written.
First, the box was well packed; I have a terrible post office, but my rack was magically undamaged.
Second, the pieces with together easily. No WD-40, no hammering. The fittings are, if anything, too loose. The whole unit assembled in well under 10 minutes.
Finally, the wall anchor isn't really optional. The unit will hold without it, but it leans, and there's something unnerving about hoisting a bike over your head and placing it on something wobbly. The included hardware is up to the job; there's one very long screw and one long screw with a wall anchor. Put in the extra work to find the stud.
Customer Review: Great way to store bikes in small space Summary: 5 Stars
Just moved from a large house into a two bedroom apartment. Our biggest challenge was what to do with our Specialized road bikes. As I was pondering my options, I saw an ad for the Racor Pro PLB-2R Two-Bike Gravity Freestanding Bike Stand, and it was on sale at Amazon for $49.99.
I took a leap of faith and ordered it. It arrived promptly, in good condition. It sat in the bedroom for three weeks as worried about the assembly. What a waste of time. Today I opened the box and without tools had the stand assembled and both bikes in place within FIVE minutes.
The product is good looking, solidly constructed and well balance. Although wall mounting hardware is included, at this time I don't really think it is necessary.
I would highly recommend this product to anyone that is looking for an affordable, quality and attractive bike stand.
Customer Review: Spend More Money.... Summary: 2 Stars
I just got this today. It was extremely easy to set up, which worried me since it will be loaded with two bikes.
First of all, it swayed and leaned considerably. So I took the bikes off, re-arranged everything and tried again. No luck, it leans even more now. Not to mention while trying to get the bottom bike off it caught on the top bike and everything came tumbling down on me. That was fun.
I bought this because I live in an apartment complex where I can not mount anything to the wall. However, this does need to be mounted, otherwise it is dangerous. It does come with screws to mount it, but this does me no good. It may be a good buy if you can mount it.
Also, it is not much of a space saver. Imagine two bikes side by side, they would take up less space!
All in all: KEEP LOOKING and SPEND MORE MONEY,(This is priced low for good reasons!)
